@1 Only work on game rules, but not guides, which were my main point of the question (I forgot to specify that).

Is there support for escaping literal text? I had issues using asterisks, since it converts to italics, and I can't use a backslash to escape the asterisks.

I still don’t understand how to table of contents, can someone help.

@Bob-chicken

When you start a line with the '#' symbol, you mark that line to be an "h1" header, and the text will be bold and slightly bigger. If you have h1 headers in your post/guide, a table of contents will be created automatically with them.

Why can I not get almost anything to work? I need to update both a forum post and a rules page.

[pre] 4 spaces to the left[/pre] : in the forum this outputs "[pre] 4 spaces to the left[/pre]" (the tags included!), but on the rules page it outputs "[pre] 4 spaces to the left[/pre]" with all the extra spaces removed

[ol][/ol][ul][/ul][il][/il] : I can't get these tags to work anywhere, but I can mostly work around it

(double underscore)underlined text(double underscore) : underlines text in the rules page, but bolds text in a forum post

(center tag)Center Text(/center tag) : center tag works in a forum post, but not the rules page.

(three or four hypens) : does not make a horizontal line on a rules page or forum post

Honestly if I could get the pre tag to work, then everything else would be workable. I feel like SR.C's implementation of BBcode is about 5% and the shortcut markdown is about 50%. I have also failed to get any raw HTML to work (which I don't think is officially supported, but would have been a nice workaround).

@Oxknifer Quite simply, you can't use special characters (like \ or +) inside the brackets when trying to make a hyperlink, as it just breaks the notation.

I have to agree with kingbeandip, the BBCode implementation leaves much to be desired. I'm trying to create a guide/list that would have actions performed, points gained, and total points accrued. I'm finding that all of the ways to create ordered and unordered lists are not working (any [ul] or [ol] tags show in the guide, and if I try [list] the code is just erased), the only alignment that works properly is "center" so I can't put all my point values to the right, I can't create a table because the code just becomes text in my guide. I can't preformat text to manually space everything into a presentable style either. I really have no power to make this list look like anything other than a sloppy pile of letters and numbers.

You could maybe add a screenshot of a table or a link to a google sheets And more tags do need to be added, I think the only ones that work are quote and center

I have a question, why is the formatting of speedrun forums so weird compared to other forums out there?

why is it both BBcode and markdown? πŸ€”

I think it's because these forums were "built from the ground up" Also it's mainly markdown

[quote=YUMmy_Bacon5]I think it's because these forums were "built from the ground up" Also it's mainly markdown[/quote] yeah well I understand somehow, but it gives of a kinda archaic feel, although I can look up all these rules for formatting and use them, sometimes it feels like too much of a slog.

I wish there was a userscript or extension out there that could help in forum posting here, although I travel across many forums and quoting here does not give a notif at all. (I think? I might be mistaken.)

I can type in lengthy things with all sorts of obscure code formats, although sometimes I think a WYSIWYG editor could be better around here. πŸ˜…

Should a new formatting guide be created? Since this one is kinda confusing (at least at first for me), doesn't have flags[flag:gb/eng], "was built to be replaced" and is somewhat out of date

Also lmao stickied threads can be bumped?😳

@YUMmy_Bacon5 probably a new thread would be nice as it's quite confusing sometimes, unless you have mastered the art of formatting, it's wild. πŸ˜…
