Hello Speedrun.com! This is likely going to be the new home of the Wave Race 64 community. I am trying to move the leaderboards to this site, and drop the proxy leaderboards soon.

More players and times are still being added to the list! I have been collecting tomes from twingalaxies and cyberscore, two older sites that have times reported to them that date YEARS back (all the way to 2002 so far is the oldest I have found)

I am still not finished adding all of the times from the other leaderboards, it takes quite a bit of time, but feel free to add your own times! We already have some new players adding their own fast times and old players finding this site and adding their old fast times to it. Lets keep it going!

Just found this... i'm on Southern Island currently in 6th place (someone must have taken it from the old google doc, thanks :). That's my only submitted time cause i previously played PAL and had only just gotten an NTSC copy. No chance for a PAL leaderboards?

Anyway I'll try set some NTSC bests, though i was struggling to match Illu last time i tried... being so used to PAL speeds! And now i see all his records are beaten by you!

Out of interest have you tried Port Blue TT with Mariner much? I can't use Jeter to save my life so i've just always used Mariner even for that course, and was getting closer and closer to Illu's time a while back... It's hard though; if memory serves, he can go faster to the point that the 3rd lap waves become too difficult to get any decent time on.

Hey and welcome!

M. Jeter has been decided as optimal for port blue and marine fortress, but you can still get decent times on those levels with D. Mariner also.

As far as PAL goes, we are pretty much only interested in NTSC because of the gameplay speed. PAL does have leaderboards, however I don't think they are kept up any longer. Stephan Mahrla is our PAL Champion and last I checked he holds every world record in time trial in the game on that version, but I am pretty certain he has not played in years.

Just saw your latest on Sunny Beach, damn man! I need to watch you on Twitch to see if you show your machine settings, cause i think the only chance i have of coming close is to use the same settings... but even then it seems very unlikely! Do you use different settings for each course?

Yeah, all of Mahrla's 3 lap times are faster than mine, but i'm closer to him than i am to the top on NTSC. I'm faster than him on a few single laps actually, Port Blue (again with Mariner) - 30"642 vs 30"698, and Southern Island 28"138 vs 28"239.

I don't think my PAL records would equate to much, but i'd like to see how they compare to myself on NTSC now, by using the conversion factor... do you know the calculation? Just because in 1997, i spent way more time fine tuning records than i do now!

I think I'll start a forum that has other categories on it, such as PAL records, VC records, 9 lap records, reverse 1 lap, and 3 lap calm conditions. They wouldn't be as serious or prestigious, but I know a lot of people have been asking about PAL. I do acknowledge it, but there is no denying the fast play of ntsc. Something like that I could commit to updating once every month or so, while the main records auto update when people submit a run, are the ones that save in the game with your initials; 3 lap, 1 lap, Reverse 3 lap.

As far as the conversion, it doesn't work in this game, at least not the way pal-ntsc works for Mario Kart. The game speed is entirely different anyway, and I believe playing the faster version is a better showcase of skill :)

I have thought about getting a PAL system set up though and testing that theory, I just don't really know what all I need. Pretty sure some kind of multi-region CRT tv would be a good idea, but a US n64 can't play PAL games to my knowledge.

Anyway, I will probably import those PAL records soon, they will probably be in the Forum section here. I'll do it as soon as I have a bit more time :)

That all sounds great, and take your time :) I agree NTSC speed is way cooler and a better showcase of skill too.

I can't say for sure but i'd guess most CRTs from 90's and later would support PAL, as that's about the time our PAL TV's started supporting NTSC i think.

For the console itself you'll probably need a machine yeah... i think you'll only need the machine itself, cause you can use your US power cable with it (i use AU power cables with a JPN console). Double check voltages first though :) Might make finding one a bit cheaper and easier if you can.

Sounds good. Maybe that will be something I look into for this year :)

Also, most of the levels have not been completed. They still have players who submitted times on other websites. Sunny Beach and Sunset Bay are the only two courses that are fully caught up, and I will probably be finishing the other ones throughout the week. It just takes a long time and is quite tedious

Hey I just wanted to announce that I am going to start allowing Virtual Console submissions for Time Trial ONLY on a trial basis. If you submit VC records for RTA (any championship times) they will be removed. I figure that the Time Trial records will match those on console, considering the way the IGT (in game timer) also slows down with any lag.

Effective as of yesterday, 3/14/15

I have just been trying to get a faster time on wave race 64 on a us copy of the game, and I am getting better, but I am having some slight troubles trying to achieve certain times.

Congratulations on your recent fast times MrDTekisonline! Welcome to the leaderboards!

All levels use D. Mariner except for Marine Fortress and Port Blue, which use M. Jeter

Stunt mode isn't a speedrunning category, but you can find leaderboards for it at cyberscore.co.uk

Hi all,

Just started getting into this game and I love it.

I notice all the times here are for the NTSC version. I have the Wii PAL version so wondering if its worth putting up a leaderboard for the best PAL times? Unless there is a way to convert PAL times to NTSC (though would that even be fair!?)

Would be great to get into this community as I haven't played a game that I have felt like speedrunning/scorechasing in years.

Many Thanks, Philip :)

Hey! Currently the only thing that matters here is NTSC and the recommended version is the Japanese Shindou version, or rumble version. Pal we kind of stay away from, but I have seen a leaderboard for it somewhere. Welcome to the speedrun forum! Your NTSC version will be just fine to start out with! Read my posts on the forums and you will have a great start

I could begin a Discord group for us, but we have a very limited community at this time so it probably will not be very active. I will put something together today or tomorrow. Also I may be in need of a new moderator pretty soon since Illudude and RyanLockwood have been inactive for a while.

We'll talk on Discord about it. If you want to you can make the discord room and invite me to it. My discord name is the same as my name on this forum.
