Organizing an Official Eagle Island Speedrun

Hi all -

I'm a noob in the speedrunning world. Ahhh - im sorry!! I currently work as the community manager at the publishing studio behind Eagle Island!

We've been curious about setting up an official tournament, but I have 0 experience here other than watching some SGDQ stuff and catching an occasional Twitch streamer running in their personal space.

I'd love if you all could provide your insight in thoughts on some questions I have.

Eagle Island is a recently release indie rogue-like, platformer hybrid w/ metroidvania elements. You're a boy and you use his owl, Koji - similarly as you aim/fire the bow in Breath of the Wild - to conquer enemies and explore the island.

There are randomly generated worlds, but also an official seed and pre-generated separate seeds. For a speedrun comp, we'd use the official or decide on a specific seed. I digress --

Most users here are outside of the Discord, but would you be consider participating? Are there usually prizes for the winners? Does a prize entice you to participate? Is an appropriate prize a Koji plush doll or straight cash money? How do we validate a speedrunner's claim? Do we choose dates for runners to submit and ask them to submit within the timeframe until the pre-determined stopping point in the game? (ie. first main boss encounter)

I truly appreciate anyone's insight - thanks for welcoming me to the forums.

You might want to check out a similar proposition here for tips https://www.speedrun.com/Speedrunning/thread/iblxr (which I saw EZscape is now endorsing, which is cool).
