So i have been doing a bit of casual practice on this game and lately I have been thinking about getting a Japanese copy of the game so here are my two questions:

  1. If i run the Japanese game on a Canadian GameCube but then just re-regionalize the memory card will my runs still be considered legitimate. 2.I may be really dumb but I have been looking for an hour or so and I cannot find a Japanese copy for sale.

Hey Kram,

You're allowed to change regions for your Gamecube, I personally run the game on my Wii, not sure if changing the region for just the memory card will make your gamecube able to run the JAP game, but I don't know much about region changing on the GC.

Check the american ebay site, canadian ebay site seems to be empty handed, here's a link:

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2054502.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.XLuigi%27s+mansion+Japan+import.TRS0&_nkw=Luigi%27s+mansion+Japan+import&_sacat=0

As long as you run the game on a legitimate disc, then it's fine. USB loaders and emulators are banned.

Hello Kram,

First off, thank you for your interest in this speed game. It is always nice to see new users that want to learn to play it. I have a couple things to say about this topic:

  1. Most everyone gets their disks off of eBay, like Dark said. Some disks can be shipped internationally and I would think that would be your best bet. The issue is that I would consider these disks more uncommon than others. Sometimes, you may have to wait a few weeks or even months to get a quality disk for a cheaper amount. Sadly I would advise you to be patient on this subject.

That being said...

  1. Unless you are close to the World Record, playing on a NTSC disk vs playing on a JPN disk don't make a ton of difference. I would personally tell you to play on an NTSC disk if you own one (and because you're practicing on a game, I'm guessing you either play on emulator or you own an NTSC version) and play on it until you find the JPN disk you want. If you look at the leader boards, owning the japanese disk doesn't guarantee fast times. It does help a little bit, but it isn't everything.

I'm glad you have some interest in getting a Japanese copy of this wonderful game! I hope I answered your question adequately and let me know if you have any more questions :)

I wouldn't recommend a new runner buying JP. It's only 20 seconds faster, roughly. With that being said, I'd run on an NTSC-U copy until you get a decent time, such as a 1:05, and I'd just cross that bridge when you get to it

Like the others said, it's better to run NTSC-U until you get a decent time since they're about the same speed. I only got JP to run on because I live in the UK, and I don't fancy PAL runs just yet lol If you really want JP, I got mine from http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Used-Video-Game-Yamatoku-Classic?_trksid=p2047675.l2563. They currently have a copy in stock with about 12hr remaining.

I got my copy from Yamatoku as well and I would recommend their products. Their support is a bit lacking, which is kind of expected. If you're set on getting a Japanese copy. I'd recommend getting it from them.

With the current route, JP is more like half a minute faster on average, but that said, I don't disagree with what everyone else is saying, I just wanted to point out that the version differences are slightly more important with Hidden Room in the route.

Hey thanks you all for the help it is great all the help that you guys provided and so readily so thank you so much.
