discuss possible new category

Hey guys. So as you know, I've been working on this "gate skip" stuff for a while, with the glitched sprites that allow the prince to jump through closed gates.

I think I want to do a new challenge where I acquire the glitched sprite, and then complete all 20 levels without warping. My projections are that it can be done in about 23.5 minutes, and presents players and viewers with a great showcase of the full scope of the game, by seeing every level, while significantly cutting down on total time from the original category. Perhaps we could call it "20 Levels (Gate Skip)." But we can discuss that later, when I'm ready to submit a video for it.

In the meantime, I thought we might start by updating the name of the original "Any% (No Warp)" category to use another title that's been used on this website, with a good example being Super Mario Bros. 1 (NES) category extension called "Glitchless." I think that would be the most accurate way to describe and distinguish the "original" category, "Any% (Glitchless)", as this would allow for the possibility of a new category to exist that uses glitches without specifically "warping." For clarification, we could stipulate in the Rules for "Any% (Glitchless)" that jumping past guards is allowed, and not considered a major glitch; but that warping, sprite manipulation, kill button, etc., are disallowed.

hi akuma, i don't know if this category is worth it, the difference with SMB1 is that there are a lot of runners, while the you are probably going to be the only one, i would wait to see what Tocaloni in think ,thank you

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't sprite manipulation and kill button a consequence of warping? (Meaning that disallowing warping, as it is done in the current rules, does already imply that none of these other glitches are possible?) Thus Any% (Warp) would already be the same as Any% (Glitchless), at least given our current knowledge of glitches in this game. Either way I would be okay with renaming the category to Glitchless or NMG while maintaining the current ruleset.

Just to be perfectly clear, I would say the name "Warp Glitch" is not the best label, because sometimes you don't use the glitch for "warping" to a new level. Sometimes you use it specifically (only) for sprite manipulation, and don't go anywhere; and other times you use it specifically to go to a new level.

So, in the first place, I just think it's more clear for the "original" category to say "glitchless" instead of saying "warpless." Because technically, you can use the "glitches" without going somewhere. So I think this small change makes things more clear.

Later, if you guys like my next speedrun idea, this clarification already makes room for a possible new category to say "warpless" or "20-levels," where all glitches are allowed, except you still must beat every level.

Latest (And Hopefully Final) Change of When the Run Starts

After the last rule change from May 30th, 2023 the runner @Akuma_apn has brought forth some compelling arguments as to why the run should start "on the first frame of the first active screen of the game (after the title screen)" (see ). As
