Do you think that you'll ever stop gaming?

Kinda been thinking about this lately. You don't often hear about people 60 or 70 years old playing video games, but we'll probably all reach that age someday. I'm sure I'll be there before just about all of you (I'm 31, it would astonish me if the overwhelming majority of you guys weren't teens or college age at the absolute most).

Even though I'm closer to 40 than 20, I can't really picture the day when I won't be a gamer anymore. Maybe it's the thousands of dollars I've spent on it, but I think it's just become as much a part of who I am as anything else. I can't imagine giving it up completely, even if I do make it to 60, 70, 80 years old. Who even knows what gaming will be like in that future. I'll keep it retro on my PS4 :P

I take breaks from time to time if my schedule gets super packed, but I always come back to it. It's one of the ways I relax and is something I genuinely enjoy. Unlike those currently occupying the AARP age group, most of us have more or less grown up in a time decently saturated with video games. If you look at what was available to us in the mid-80s and 90s vs what was available in the 70s and prior it kind of makes sense as to why not too many geezers these days are avid gamers.

All of that to say, when a couple more decades roll by I will absolutely still be playing games. I cannot wait to be a cranky old man trolling youths and yelling at kids to get off my server.

I agree and laugh out loud with unrealcroisant. I was born in the mid 80's and since I can remember I've had a controller in my hands. I don't think I'll ever quit gaming because it's a part of me in almost an evolutionary way. Maybe you could compare it to real life games like horseshoes or poker. People have been playing those games for over a 100 years and some started playing at a very young age, like us with video games, and they're going to continue playing until the day they die.

My tombstone will be a NES controller.

Depression?

Try to talk with someone IRL instead of shouting "speedruns sucks, I have a depression" :(

Your parents, maybe your GF...I dunno...they will always listen to you! And no need a piece of critique so everyone would notice you <3

I don't know if I will ever give up gaming, I know its sad, but it distracts me from real life, and sometimes I just prefer a virtual world, it also helps with my depression, p.s I'm 16 what about u guys, and its great to have some older people on this site :D

Hey now, I'm a few months shy of 30 myself... that's not too old, right guys? Right?...

Gigguk explains it pretty well (if you replace "anime" with "video games") I think it's something that will always be a part of us and it will always draw people like us together.

I'm almost 35, and I've been playing games as long as I remember. I have no intention of stopping.

'You don't often hear about people 60 or 70 years old playing video games"

That's because they didn't have anywhere near the exposure we have today. If you're 40 or younger, you've probably had video games for almost as long as you've been alive. Nobody who's grown up all their life having video games has gotten to 60 or 70 yet. I'm sure in 30-40 years time there'll be plenty of old farts still playing games.

My grandmother was a gamer. Always had the latest system since the PSX. Dunno what got her into it, but she was always playing RPGs and puzzlegames when she played.

I have given up a few time the longest was for about 2 months but I am always drawn back into it. The first time and the longest time I quit was after the birth of my son I thought i wouldn't have time to game so sold all my consoles (including my retro collection) and went cold turkey. After about 2 months i realised I had spare time and bought an Xbox 360 and I haven't looked back.

I take breaks from gaming though some weeks I wont play at all it just stops me getting burnt out.
