Actually, while handling bounties in the forum is great, we could spread awareness of bounties by setting them on leaderboards.

Users would set a time (default criteria) and any other optional criteria for a bounty to feature on the leaderboard. Mods accept, modify, or reject the bounty. The user is then responsible for paying out the prize, if there is one, once a run is validated.

Under the dropdown "More" on the srcom navbar, we could add Bounties. The default would be to categorize them by date posted, with completed bounties attached to runs at the bottom of the page. Further sorting options should include regular game sorting options, as well as prize amounts. Keep in mind that prizes could be nonmonetary and valued at a specific amount (example: An N64 remote valued at $35).

I think this would make the site more fun and create a new era for bounty hunters.

There was a thread on this in the past, I think kirkq started it here in The Site (if I can find it I’ll edit it into the end of my post). I dont remember what was decided out of it though. That being said, native bounty support would be interesting, but it’s important to remember that not all bounties are purely run/time based. A lot in the past have been for finding setups for tricks, skips, glitches etc. (the like $1000 one for Barrier Skip in TWW comes to mind). I think it was these cases that made it hard to decide if hey should be LB based or something more site centralized.

EDIT: nope, was Pac, not kirkq https://www.speedrun.com/The_Site/thread/yonpk

Ahh yeah, I remember that thread now. I was trying to remember where I saw it in the past lol. I think non-time based runs would be easy enough to implement. An example of implementing on this site would be:

Name: Barrier Skip Bounty Time goal: Sub 8:00.00 or None Additional Criteria: Be the first to use the barrier skip in a full run. Provide an additional video with commentary on how to replicate the skip. Etc. Prize: $1000 by User(s)

After the bounty post gets modified/accepted by the mods, the mods should be responsible for verifying a valid bounty run. I see no reason for this to be site centralized, other than the Bounties page I mentioned.

As for the topic of cheating, (lol suddenly remembers my post in that thread), it looks like we couldn't come up with a solution for avoiding it. I really think it's up to the user offering money and the mods to set criteria to avoid cheating. In any case, cheating on a bounty should result in a permaban from speedrun.com. We should even ban players for cheating on smaller bounties, as they are probably the easiest for cheaters to do their work, considering most eyes will be watching the bigger prizes.

Then again, these are all nice features, but if srcom is really worried about cheating, they shouldn't implement this.

There should be a proper listing of all upcoming marathons on the site, ideally in chronological order, though it could also be like the games page where it can be sorted by other things as well (I know all marathons are listed at the bottom of the forums page but that also shows already finished marathons and doesn't appear to be sorted in any particular order). Also would be nice if there was API access for marathons.

^ Id say thats a bad idea as there may still be things to discuss. Sure, some thread bumps are unnecessary but its worse if every time theres something to say a new thread has to be opened with a link to the old one.

United States

SRC getting involved with bounties seems like a bad idea, given how many people flake out on them.

Anybody else having trouble trying to watch the videos?

I see a run on a leader board, I click the camera icon, I go to the page where the Twitch or YouTube video is... except I can't actually watch the video. It's just an image (Thumbnail), no play options.

I'm using Chrome (version 67.0.3396.99 official build 64-bit), everything is up to date, I haven't installed any extensions.

I'm pretty sure everything was find this afternoon, but all night I've had trouble seeing videos.

I don't know where else to ask and it doesn't feel like this is a question that merits its own thread, so....is the "Streaming" forums section strictly for "OBS keeps crashing" "My capture card suddenly doesn't work" "Why am I dropping so many frames when I stream" etc. etc. Or can it also be for discussion of streaming culture? I know it isn't for HEI GUISE COME WATCH MUH STRIM but I had an idea for a thread asking about proficient play on stream vs. newbie play on stream, especially as it relates to someone who fashions themselves a speedrunner. Would a topic like this be best suited for "Streaming" or "Talk" ?

I'd like to say that I do like this website. I like the idea of it and for it being as new as it is, it's pretty great. But I do have some gripes.. I do like the idea of the pictures in general. For instance, the game covers on each page work really well

You gonna elaborate on your gripes or nah?

On the Users page, being able to sort by the amount of runs people have submitted to the website as a whole.

^^^^^^^ In addition to this, sorting specific to locations. So say you could see who has submitted the most runs only from Canada or something.

Just wondering if the flag for the Scottish region 'Sutherland' could be added to the site? (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Sutherland)

Also I think St Helena has it's own flag, but is currently set to the union jack.

Stirling, Scotland

To be honest, I'm not a fan of having anything outside of countries being a flag.

There's actually a lot more flags (and crests) for Scotland (and probably England as a whole) than what you mentioned, but they're honestly pointless and unidentifiable to the mass majority of people unless you're from that section.

I personally cannot identify flags from states at a glance, let alone my own country or territories. They're not used on the large scale or in representation when presented at a global scale - and this is for a reason.

There'll probably be an overhaul at some point for a lot of things in the site to be tailored to be more "mobile friendly" and generally more pleasing to the eye. I'd imagine a unification for the flags might also be in place here, though, nothing is set in stone yet.

All of Englands are there Scotland only has like 5 most of the areas don't have a flag but I guess it would be a pain to implement.

Being able to see a preview of guides (or even forum posts) before publishing them would be very helpful, and would likely prevent getting multiple "this guide was updated" messages in very quick succession.
