Any% Assoluto Teaser

Good evening, folks.

I'd like to leave a demonstration I've recorded recently that shows more advanced and optimized drifting techniques using RTS Infinito. It's some evidence that Assoluto is indeed the fastest route for Any%, due to the signifcant time saves that one can obtain in Stage 3 by using Infinito. I hope I can record a good run soon enough, but I can't make any promises due to how busy I am. Without further ado, here it is:

Lazio, Italy

Problem with Assoluto is that it loses a lot more time on all the other tracks that are not Stage 3 compared to the possible timesave on these tracks. I'm not totally sure it's the fastest route, but I would be interested in seeing a full clean run with Assoluto.

Brazil

The more significant time losses are in Helter Skelter and Wonderhill, especially Helter Skelter. On practice, Shooting Hoops isn't a significant time loss from Terrazi because Squalo handles very well, unlike Destroyer. One can consistently obtain around 28'450's with it. Besides, there's less menu text with Assoluto, resulting in some time save. As for the 2nd heat, Fatalita and Wildboar perform just the same, but it does require more technical dexterity for Assoluto to obtain similar times.

I'll try to record a full clean run as soon as possible. I once got a 27:35.37 with an actual console two years ago that went unrecorded due to my lack of hardware. I'll record my next DuckStation run with the same emulation parameters you used. It's only appropriate to show my findings with actual footage.

What do you exactly mean with less menu text?

Brazil

Less scrolling when selecting your manufacturer.

In case you record a full run with Assoluto on Duckstation, can you also use an Input Displayer? I would like to see how to consistently get tight short drifts with Drift cars.

Brazil

Sure.

Speaking of inputs, I recommend using controller type C for drift cars, if you're using a neGcon, to optimize drifting when using the brakes to lose traction. This one's necessary for Brightest Nite and Heaven and Hell. The input displayer should show when and how to do it.

The total time loss for selecting Terrazi instead of Assoluto is less than half a second. I personally wouldn't worry about that

With the just-frame menu input, it isn't much of a time save any more, that's true. It used to be more.

But then again, the significant time saves are from Infinito. I'll try recording a run today.

By the way, do any of you know where can I find the millisecond count for LiveSplit?

Brazil

Though I tried to get a clean run, I failed a lot of times and I ran out of time and patience. I decided to upload two videos showcasing Heaven and Hell and the 1st lap of Out of Blue, both showing my inputs:

If you have any questions, feel free to ask, and I'll answer them as soon as I can.

Although it's now clear that Assoluto is faster, I'd say it's still less consistent than Terrazi. Before switching to Terrazi I tried for a bit to go for Assoluto but I was definitely doing something wrong with drifts. This clearly shows Assoluto's strenght over Terrazi though. Thanks for sharing this, I might probably try myself to get consistent with Assoluto in the near future :)

Brazil

That's absolutely right. Getting consistently good times with Assoluto is the main problem with the route. It's getting one good run among many failures. I recommend Terrazi over Assoluto for consistency in a marathon run, for example. It took a while to find out how to drift properly, it's not something intuitive. Anyway, glad I've been of help! You can always contact me if you have any questions.
