Island Flyover Timing Method Change

This threads purpose is to propose and discuss a new timing method for the Wii Sports Resort speedrun category all i-Point badges in island flyover.

Basically the idea is to start the run at a later input, which starts the flyover, instead of the input selecting the daytime.

The rules state “Timer starts when you select the time of day and ends when you collect the last i Point Badge.”, but if we'd start the run on the certain a-press seen in the video, which I’d argue is the first input before you actually gain control over the plane, thus making a run individual, it would enable us to manipulate the cycle based i-Points, namely the whale shark, team firefly, the ferry and Miguel, at least without losing time. This can be seen in i-Point or balloon highscore runs, to make these certain i-Points appear on more optimal positions throughout the highscore route.

My argument for this timing method change is we would gain more routing possibilities and could theoretically optimize the run further, because of the additional routing element. This might even be crucial for the first two flyover only route, but we won’t know that for certain. Another argument would be the easy transition, since the time subtracted from the current runs on the leaderboards I’d say should be universal. Some runs would be at disadvantage because of the human inability to mash frame perfectly, but this would only be a handful of frames to be frank and our leaderboard does not display milliseconds anyways. Thanks for reading!

I dont have any expertise running this category but this does sound like a beneficial change

Proof Standards Changes

In the past, runs below a certain threshold could be submitted without video. Now, this system has been removed. All runs require video proof from now on.
