The Just Dance games where you have to achieve 5 stars on every song or LoZ Four Swords

All sorts of autoscrollers or games with fixed time to finish (for example: KEYBOARD DRUMSET FUCKING WEREWOLF).

Not saying you can't speedrun these games, but they have very little speedrun potential, as everyone can get the same time if they did a deathless run (I think).

Oh and sorry for necro, but I wanted to add something from myself :x

A lot of VR Games weren’t intended for speedrunning, but the devs interact with the runners anyway. A good example of this is Owlchemy Labs. They created Job Simulator and Vacation Simulator, and they have a #speedruns channel in their discord, even though it wasn’t meant to be speedrun.

Any game that has basically no end to it. If it's like open world mmorpg or something that only has quests, then the whole game probably can't be done in a speedrun. Maybe the quests, but you'd probably have to reset so much that it just gets unappealing really quickly. Tycoons and simulation, too, probably. The only way you could speedrun the "impossible" games like these would probably be setting end game goals, like how there are different categories in games to speedrun (like doing star% or nipple% in SMO, even though those are basically meme categories). Basically anything can be speedrun (ran?) if you can set a goal in it. Even if it has no official ending to it.

Lock-On/ Super Air Driver for super nintendo. Ive been casually trying for a year to beat it to get a run in. But I only found one video of someone beating it. And it was posted relatively recently. No forum posts about people beating it. Its one of those 3$ snes games so pretty cheap buy in.

I used to assume DDR and other rhythm games couldn't be run, until I saw this

Funny, I saw the title and immediately remembered a "speedrun" I did in the unlikely genre of them all - Idle game. I basically ran the first difficulty of the game, which for most people might take 3-6 months, it took me "only" 67 days. (Game name is NGU Idle by the way).

@myfifa20 I was thinking about modern sports games. lol

@WanderAgro no it's really not - there is a lot of great conversation in here worth reading, and the five additional comments are a LOT more beneficial to the forums than people saying "stop necroing". THAT truly contributes nothing.

It isn't a rule. People can necro if they want, and it has brought about discussion.

This is not even a necro tbh. It is just a post in an older thread that is brought back to revelance. Necroing is bumping something really old, however it' not necroing if what you bump a releavence to the current situation.

Funnily enough, while it is more or less an unwritten rule on forums, some forums actually wrote that down as a forum rule because the necroposting got out of hand.

I was interested to see that Lemmings was mentioned. It's not a "typical" speedrun game by a long shot, Lemmings speedrunning has had quite a lot of activity recently, both on the original games and on fanmade engines (SuperLemmini and NeoLemmix) which give the player more fine-control abilities such as fast-forward, framestepping, instant max release rate, and so forth. Regardless of engine, a lot of the levels have a variety of different ways to approach them, and we've had a lot of interesting discussion about comparing different strategies.

My Little Pony Crystal Princess: The Runaway Rainbow. To summarize with one sentence: "You go here, then you do that, and then you go there, and then you do that, and then do this, do that, do this, do that, and repeat." It's obviously wasn't made for speedrun in mind, but that doesn't stop me to lower it down.

Walking simulators that have even the slightest bit of player freeroam I love - of course they're made with speedrunning as low as possible in priority. There's always the possibility there'll be something super broken that makes it a speedrun though.

@RaggedDan I'm always conflicted with game-breaking glitches, like it is COOL for people to play a game like that then find some glitch that makes the game complete in like 0.01 seconds .... but I have no interest in watching things like that haha even the famous ones like Mario 3 and SMW
