Something that I can't help but notice is that after completing King Boo, the completed file has a time attached to it. The time is for the last Story Checkpoint, basically just after Mario is released from the painting after the Hellen fight, and just before activating the "There's no turning back" E. Gadd text box before King Boo. Assuming the time attached to the file is accurate to the closest minute, and, optimally, the section following opening the door should have a relatively consistent time since it's just movement and the King Boo fight, I wanna hear from the mods if a screenshot of a completed file might be good enough to hold up as proof of a run that isn't in top 10 contention. I'm not a mod of any other speedrun leaderboards so I'm not super sure how unreasonable this might be for the mods, just something I wanted to bring up.

I guarantee that wont be allowed because the king boo fight can take a different amount of time depending on what happens in it. Im not sure what the rules for video/splits/etc. are but that definitely wont be allowed.

I understand that completely. Of course, this could never be proof of a top 10 run, as I pointed out in my initial statement. It just seems to me like a happy medium between just accepting runs slower than a certain time and only accepting runs with videos.

Like I said in another thread, I think we need to find a balance between video requirements and people wanting to play without a setup. With the number of runs this game has in such a short time, I think video requirements for top 10 is acceptable, right now that means under 3h 20mins, and most people do more than that, I don't see why you NEED a video requirement when it isn't the easiest thing to do especially when you don't have a capture card...

Its not hard to find a setup without a cap card. It takes some work but its a case of “if you wanna keep running/run at all, dont be lazy and find a setup”

As for what i think it should be, id say sub 3:30 sounds good. Nice, even number that isn’t extremely free but isnt extremely hard. The problem with going lower is that it could potentially encourage people to submit fake runs.
