Question Regarding Backups on DVD-R

I already know that loading backups off USB is banned, but I have a question about when it's burnt on DVD-R.

I owned a NTSC-J version of sunshine that I would like to load and speedrun from my Wii disc drive, but I lost the disc (Kappa). I have a backup of it on a burnt DVD-R. Are runs on DVD-R allowed? I know little to nothing about loading times, but I know that it wouldn't be fair to accept USB, but what about DVD backups? Thanks in advance.

tbh I'm not sure this has ever come up. Might be better to ask it in help or general in the discord server. People don't check these forums very often.

Afaik it hasn't really come up, yeah. It's weird because the disc format is different from the OG GCN disks. Not sure how we handle it.

Would a run on DVD-R be accepted, or no?

I'm just gonna go on record here and say that burned discs fall in the same boat as USB/SD loading. It's not official hardware, therefore there is no guarantee that it will perform the same as an official disc.

Discussion in the Discord, put here: Gamecube discs are the size they are because it speeds up loading, so using a full-size DVD-R will actually slow down load times and put you at a disadvantage.

Just thought I'd add... a few years ago, GiratinaJumps played SMS off a burned DVD due to his messed up Wii disc drive, and it was really slow compared to a standard disc.
