It has been suggested, a while ago now,

Since the discovery of the Sampo chest seeds would render Any%, Teleportless, and Low% identical; TPless and Low% rules should specify that the player is only allowed to complete the game at The Work underground.

Considering the discussion I've heard on various streams and in discord, I'm going to make this change now and we can revert it if there is substantial objection.

Please object here if you think we shouldn't change it. (You could also message me in private [via speedrun.com, discord, twitter, twitch, etc...] if you are more comfortable that way)

Glass Cannon is against the rules because the drawback of the perk is the lowered HP.

Since the rules of the category disallow damage anyway, it becomes a massive damage up with no drawback and was seen to contradict the spirit of play by making it too easy.

The ruleset was made long before the 'hitless' pillar achievement bearing McQueeb's beard and has little correlation.

There are few runners for this category, so what I'm about to say shouldn't be taken as gospel, but it is what I believe to be the case.

  1. You can collect whichever orbs you prefer, you just need 11 orbs 'in hand' and 'complete the game'.

  2. I believe reloading via the mod menu is ok, but I won't discount the possibility that a consensus of runners could decide that that, rebooting in general, or even just pausing, to be against the rules in the future.

Based on discussions here, in discord, and on various streams, I believe the consensus opinion is that we should use real time and I will change the setting presently.

Please note, we should continue to record the in game time, as some people think this is the relevant time and can choose to sort the board by this metric.

Based on all the discussion, I think the Teleportless rule should change to "Player is not allowed to teleport (including accidentally). Holy Mountain portal excepted."

and

low% be created with the rule of "Player is not allowed to teleport (including accidentally) unless via a teleport bolt, return or swaper spell. Holy Mountain portal excepted."

I consider that run to be "grandfathered in".

If it were submitted today I would reject it for using mods.

Even "just cosmetic mods", I don't know what the code is, I don't know what all the mod is doing.

We allow a specific mod for the "hitless" category as an exception because it indicates a hit better than a recording can.

I'd have to argue against not accepting excessively laggy runs because making a fair definition of 'excessive' is going to be problematic.

for example: your suggestion that we only accept 30 seconds of lag would invalidate -all- of my runs and probably 95% of the board.

And at 30 seconds, you are already past the point of being able to abuse the game lag for an advantage in gameplay, so setting it longer just makes it worse.

Sorry, I misunderstood.

As I understand the ruleset, the prohibition on alchemy refers to Alchemic precursor, lively concoction, void liquid and the like.

You can see McQueeb turn some sludge into water in the original run

So, cleaning sludge is ok.

Alias recently said this about the topic on discord

"my reasoning for teleport spell being allowed in teleportless is the following : the fastest movement in any% is teleportitus/teleportatium and there is no place for teleport bolt outside of teleporting to the boss or to the first flask.

It is totally useless in that category. In teleportless the optimal strategy is falling the entire way, teleporting is not op, black hole repulsion is the end game.

I think it's best we leave the rules open for as many strategies as possible, any% is anything goes BS and teleportless is supposed to allow any run to be fast and get a good amount of diversity.

I will happily withdraw my run though if people feel differently. I just want to see the speedrun community of noita flourish.

I must say I have been extremely frustrating resetting for berserk/accel every run.

I wonder if we could make a mod that forces a consistent starting loadout so it's not reset city and would people be interested in something like that?

The primary thing in controversy is the use the teleport spell on a wand (see the current WR by Alias).

The rules were made before it was in the game, and some people think you should be allowed to use it since it's it's precise, intentional, skill-based and line-of-sight movement.

Basically, taking the interpretation that it's not really teleporting owing to the way it functions / the fact that you don't go through walls with it.

I'd suggest the rephrase, if it were to happen, would be something to emphasize like 'no teleporting-like movement, except holy mountain, including but not limited to yada yada yada".

Concern about the potential for abuse of game lag has been brought up (again).

More than one person has expressed that the potential for abuse is greater than the 'pay to win' concern (better PC = less lag which makes it easier to get a better Real Time time) which had more adherents last time.

Please let me know what you think.

Multiple people have raised concern about the current rules of the teleportless category.

I think it should be changed back to a general ban of any kind of teleporting (intentional or unintentional) except for the Holy Mountain Portal.

Please voice support, opposition or criticism here.

So it seems you need to press escape to see the seed/build number during a run. Best practice might be showing this on video at the beginning or end of an attempt

I haven't heard anyone ask for a wipe.

I should be able to add something like a "major version" tag to runs in a similar way to the current (random / seeded) thing we have now.

Of course, I'm open to discussion on this and any thing I say about it shouldn't be taken as gospel.
