SM64DS has vastly less runners than the original SM64, there are more than enough categories already. If there was actually substantial interest from runners to try out some of these new categories then they could be created at that point, but creating categories and then seeing if people run them is a fairly backwards approach. As it stands, the one extra misc. category that was added recently (All Characters) doesn't even have a single run yet, which I think proves my point that an even wider selection of categories is not needed or wanted at the moment.

Doing it the way SM64 does it would unnecessarily fracture competition, and most people were against it. It kinda works for SM64 through the fact they have so many runners, but it legitimises emu runs as there is an emu "WR" for each category, so honestly I still don't really like it. I don't run the game though so I have no say in how the leaderboard is run, which is how it should be.

VC times are displayed because it is an official release, while emulator is not. Simple.

To make emulator runs show, click Filter, click Emulators, then click either Consoles and Emulators or Emulators only.

Looking at your profile, you have been making a lot of forum posts, many asking for rules changes or new categories for games you haven't even run. People seem to have been nice to you so far, but many people will find a random appearing and telling them how to run their leaderboard very annoying. Just a warning.

Because they're not taken as seriously. If there's a specific run you think is impossible then contact the runner and ask them how they did it, or report it if you really have to.

This game seems very suited towards using the in-game timer, particularly for Individual Level speedruns. Using IGT opens up several interesting routing options, such as waiting on pause blocks or using bubbles in an interesting fashion. For example, you can use a bubble in 1-2 to move forwards, and I was able to save a second from the record: https://twitter.com/Really_Tall/status/845822269003829248

Using IGT also eliminates the problem of inconsistent loading/lag spikes. In that same video, I get a massive lag spike at about 0:28, and by using IGT that doesn't affect my time.

IGT could also be applied to full game runs, by adding up the IGT of each level and having that as the final time, similar to what is done with some Sonic games. I'm more interested in ILs but it would be worth considering.

All in all I think IGT would make ILs a lot more interesting, easier to time, and fairer between devices. The only downside is re-timing runs, but there are currently not too many so that should be easy enough to do. I really hope the IL leaderboards can be switched to IGT, and maybe the full game ones too :)

P.S. Please add android as a platform, the game recently released on it.

Thanks for fixing/adding that :)

For the RTA thing, I think it should be possible to edit someone's run and set the real-time to 0:00.00, making the column blank. This should, I think, remove the column if there are no runs with real-time left on that board. You'd have to edit every run individually though.

The background does seem awkward so thanks for doing the best you could, and good luck improving it if you work on it more.

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd icons are nice. Changing the background so that it is only one copy of the comics instead of infinitely expanding might work better, as right now it's very hard to see where they start. And on the theme of overhauling stuff, setting the correct release date (14th January) and platforms (add New 3DS) would be nice. Also removing the real-time column (seems only to be present on boards with older runs) would be cool. Nice to see someone taking an interest!

We already had a community vote on this, maybe two months ago? This change would be pretty much irreversible so I'm really not a fan of trying to change it again, unless there are some good new reasons presented. The ending is still a part of the game that needs to be beaten, as you still have control and it is possible to lose/gain time based on how fast you press Esc/select and if you do the right inputs. In fact several runners have lost >10s on various runs where they didn't skip the falling cutscenes, credits, or even both. Additionally, wouldn't this be even harder to time with the load remover? Those are my thoughts on it I guess. I know I've only done a couple of runs so my opinion probably doesn't hold as much weight, but I am planning to relearn the game in the summer, or maybe even before then, so the rule set still matters to me.

Is there any way to stick with the old layout? Not a fan.

It would be boring. Maybe an All Bosses category could work out, but as it is there aren't even many people running Any% and Any% No IBG.

This appears to be the most up-to-date list of IL WRs, it's the only one linked in the SM64 Discord server at least. It would be fantastic if IL leaderboards could be on speedrun.com too.

This is the trick. This is the only consistent way of doing it, and therefore the way used in runs. The original method discovered didn't save and reload, but instead used a series of clips with solo Paper Mario to reach the Info Centre right next to Mount Brrr. Talking to a Lakitu then made Mario and Luigi reappear. Unfortunately the last clip is ridiculously inconsistent (I got it twice in two hours), so we don't use that method even though it's a couple of minutes faster.

That would be absolutely fine! A video would be preferred, but no proof of any sort is currently required.
