@Sots28 I've downloaded OpenEmu and Super Mario Bros for the famicon on EmulatorGames.net, so I think I have all that's needed for a run, except the nestopia core. the problem is, I can't find settings/preferences!
Hello! I'm NoiceGood, and we need YOU to give us ideas on how to time a phase! A phase is when you warp through a wall. Examples are here:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1q0y2ythfmA
Phases happen in places with two walls close together, and an empty space on one side to warp to. The O phase is special because it's the only phase that has 100% accuracy if you follow the precise steps. The other two are pretty inconsistent at best. The steps are in the description of the video. So far, I've found 3 levels where phasing is possible, which I've shown in the videos above. If you've done a phase that's not any of the three above, report it here hopefully with video evidence. If you think a phase is possible and has not been found yet in any of the levels, also report it here. Now, to the topic of the thread. How should we time a phase? So far, there's been two ideas:
-
The time ends on the first frame you start to phase into the wall. With this idea, you could just slightly phase into the wall, which would be significantly easier than a real phase.
-
The time ends when you've been inside the wall for 400 milliseconds. With this idea, runs where you phase really quickly in and out of the wall would not count.
-
The time starts on the first frame you phase into the wall but the run only counts if you continue to stay in the wall for 400 milliseconds.
Note: when contributing an idea, try to format it like the two above. good ideas will be added into this post, alongside them. when enough ideas are gathered, we will make a vote.
This is how the vote will be like: https://www.speedrun.com/redball1/news/k06v756m
Original post by me discussing with @JumboSheep about the stuff above: https://www.speedrun.com/Infinity_Platformer/forums/bvgsq
This thread is simple.
Don't Break The Chain.
I will type something like yummy!
And you will have to do the same. If someone does something wrong, the chain is broken and a new chain is formed. Get ready!
[NOTE FROM DECEMBER 12TH, 2021, Why the heck is this super popular here.]
[NOTE FROM JULY 2ND, 2022, How the hell does this have over one hundred pages of chains, what if somebody made a video on this?]
[NOTE FROM JULY 2ND, 2023, hehe one year exact lolzah.]
[NOTE FROM JULY 15TH, 2024, nearly four years of shenanigans and we reach 5000 replies, congrats and shoutouts to everyone who decided that participating in this silly little game should be apart of their daily routine.]
@JumboSheep yeah, there's many ways you can time a phase. I think we should make a new forum and ask for ideas about how to time phase%. after we've accumulated enough ideas, I think we should put it to a vote. I'm leaving an example of a vote in the link below to inform people how our vote will be like.
how do you make a vote? I'm thinking of making one.
oh no you're not, Gaming_64. @SuperGamer64**** tied the knot. he hearted my comment. he cut the ropes. you will fight until the grim reaper drags either of you down to the depths of hell! @SuperGamer64... you are ready to fight, you say? good. determination and guts will be a helping factor in your success. this will be the death match of the century! arm for arm, foot for foot, heart for heart... THE DEATH ROYALE MATCH PREPARATIONS HAVE BEGUN! THIS WILL BE BRUTAL! anyway everyone, lets all decide what game they'll fight on.
Well, you have the wr at it! I guess you just wanted to get to the top of the tree at that game and smash everybody else.
If @SuperGamer64 likes my comment, he will enter in a death royale battle with @Gaming_64.
@NoiceGood realizes that his comments that he tries to post on mobile don't appear somehow.
@JumboSheep How does better speed run timer work? I'm thinking of doing a couple of IL runs like Act did. what is the easiest way to retime my runs? Or is it easier for me to just say my IL run was 2 seconds or something and you'll do the retime? I hope the Phase% on level d, g, and o will be made soon, but I guess you were very busy verifying Act's ILs. ;)
@Tech_Voyager When I look up ”how to comment on a scratch project”, it just tells about what comments are and their limitations and rules but it doesn’t tell you a single bit about how to post one! Maybe it’s just me being thick, but I don’t want to make rash decisions like creating accounts and stuff like that… it’s good I know how to comment here, though! Also, @JumboSheep I saw my run got verified, but was it really 3:49 down to the millisecond? If it is, that’s pretty amazing. :)
Hello, Tech_Voyager! it's great to talk to you! Infinity Platformer is definitely my favorite web game ever! about the phases, I did try to comment on your game multiple times, but the instructions were too confusing. can you leave the bug where it is? I'm pretty sure the phase% will be a very intresting category. in the end its your decision, and I will respect it either way.
@JumboSheep Has any more PPLs been found? I found another PPL in the form of level 59. this is an interesting phase, as it's the only one that has 100% accuracy if you follow the precise steps. the other two are pretty inconsistent at best. what you have to do is change your skin and start off as the white ball, wedge yourself between the first o and the wall, change your skin again to the green ball, and press the up and right arrow (or W and D) at the same time, and boom, a phase that always works and never fails. also, I have a level run that hasn't been verified for 6 days, and I hope it gets verified soon. my level run: https://www.speedrun.com/Infinity_Platformer/runs/m3jdp16z
my level 59 phase:
@JumboSheep Thanks for adding it! I feel like I've made infinity platformer history. the thing is, I think phasing only works in places with two walls close together, and an empty space on one side to warp to. (sorry if my explanation was bad.) I've tried every way to do it in DPITW (don’t phase into the walls) with no avail. I think the TAS sounds great, wonder how many PPLs (phase-possible levels) it will find. also, I found out that level 51 is a PPL. need to add g% then.
