serious question for all people who moderate games and verify runs

would you accept a speedrun where there is no in game audio and said in game audio is covered up by some weird elevator music

Canada

Depends on the game.

Usually the game's rules will mention if in-game audio is required. Check those first, and ask the mods of the game if you want to be sure.

i just think it's weird to not have in game audio i understand not every one is a fan of music they listen to for hours and hour on end but most games have sliders for that

If you have the choice, stick with the game audio; it acts as additional validation that your run is legit. If the music is that grating, see if you can turn it off while leaving other sound effects on.

I don't care at all. In 99% of cases game audio is totally useless to a verifier.

In all games I moderate, I don't require audio ONLY if the game has a reliable in-game timer, which can make splicing impossible (or at least super difficult). Otherwise, audio is a must for me to verify a run.
Most cheaters are going to splice where there simply is no image (on a black screen, like a load) and pray moderators/runners don't notice a jump or oddity in audio.
Almost all occasions of no image screens in runs from my experience are load screens. Load screens also basically never have audio making it totally useless for catching splices.

im glad im not the only one who finds no audio runs to be weird and out of place sadly the guy who runs the for the king board does not seem to care and basically jumped on me when i asked why a run with elevator music had been approved when there was no in game audio

Australia

I usually only require it for different thresholds, for e.g. a wr / top time in a category

most games i run are unpopular so there's little incentive to cheat anyways

(and because I normally listen to my own music while running and i cba)

I've honestly never speedran a game where loads actually had audio. From my experience they've all been solid black screens with no sound. I suppose if it's a game that does have audio then it could actually be useful, but even then I personally would not care much for lower ranked runs.

well the run in question knocked my friend out of being first place for the apprentice solo any% so thats why i had asked the mod of the board and he told me basically asking was an offense to the guys run i would show you all the thread but well he commented on it the other day then deleted it before i could read his last reply

If I can stick the two together without any problems then yeah

That's what's done in long RPG games such as Final Fantasy where it's several hours long. I see no issue with it.

@Syrop_15 In cases where video is required, it's assumed that the video will be posted at permanent links accessible by the public. YouTube is the standard, though certain other sites will do.

@Syrop_15 You don't upload videos to this site; you upload them somewhere else and include the link with your run submission. This site does not act as a video-hosting site.

The video-hosting site you use doesn't have to be youtube if you'd prefer not to, but it does have to be openly accessible so everyone can view it.
