So, clearly, this game is a lot larger than any other Pokemon game. But 6 hours?! For a speedrun?! Do you think there is going to be a faster route for this (obviously you need luck and RNG on your side)? Also, remember Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, they didn't take this long. neither did X/Y. Nintendo went overboard on this one. What do you think?

My personal guess is Sub 6 hours is possible on N3DS with no deaths & good execution.

Route wise I’m not sure how much more it can be optimized but hopefully more time can be cut out of this game.

Since roughly half of the run is cutscenes, there's just so much a route can change about the lowest time. After the timing changes, I think a polished route will be able to get below 6.

I think that this game needs time to evolve, since it literally just came out. There's a lot of cutscenes and down time in the game, but thats already to be expected seeing how game freak is going for more story based elements and cinematics. Omega Ruby had a lot of just initial time savers; (various warps to certain towns that would save back tracking, options to skip certain things, etc. Along with X/Y those games were just a lot shorter in general. The trials and different puzzles, just take longer than beating gyms in some cases. so yeah, they did go for something very different than the usual format which is going to make these games much longer. This game is also a lot harder than the original, imo. They up scaled the difficulty due to the general mass' saying the first sun/moon was too easy lol

This game is way too hard. lol. Like, I never died in a Pokemon game except for Champion Steven but in Ultra Moon I died to Hau, Olivia, Marowak, and Barboach. Like it is harder than any other Pokemon game I have played. I am right now in Ula' Ula Island. I am enjoying the game and am trying to complete it 100%. Speaking of, why is there only any%? I mean there are some game variants and you could trade for them I guess. And there should be all totem stickers category. And why is there ENG3DS and JAP3DS? That's useless, but anyway, add more categories and this game is still too hard.

Additional categories would probably be either Round 2, which sounds extremly hard to do fast and/or stickers. Multiplayer isn't a thing for speedruns, a catch-all-possible kinda category would take days. Language options are there because they do make sense. Different texts have different length and therefore take different times, as well as the fact that the japan pokemon speedruns community only recently started transitioning to this site and they probably also wanted it like this.

OK the JAP3DS makes sense now and I don't know what is Round 2. A catch-all Pokemon in your game would make sense would it not? Like I believe Latias and Latios are different from game to game. Don't trade, just catch one in your game. I mean Austin John Plays (don't know if you know who that is) completed the Pokedex in like 3-6 hours stream and there have been long runs before, so yeah. The only question is how to get Zeraora. XD

@NinjaBoyGamer Round 2 is refighting the Elite 4 after beating them the first time.

  wartabwartab

Nobody would do that in gen 7. There's already only a handful of people running any%

Hey, quick question. Do any of the runners hold down a or b and use the other to advance text? It (from my experience) makes text go faster than the fast text option would normally allow it to go.

  wartabwartab

That is correct. It advances at 8 characters per frame instead of 4 when you do that.

wait, b is faster or a is faster?

  namelessrandonamelessrando

holding b and using a for text advancement is just as fast as holding a and using b for text advancement.
