I'm new to this game and was wondering what the difference was between red/blue and fire red/leaf green.

When I say something assume its the opposite in the games not mentioned -abilities dont exist in RB and are hugely important in FRLG -You cant get Nidoran until way later in FRLG -you cant do pokedoll skip in FRLG -AI is a lot smarter in FRLG -RNG manipulation doesnt really work at all in FRLG -Spinners exist in FRLG -Running shoes exist in FRLG -You can buy repels before Mount Moon in FRLG -X Accuracy and OHKO moves were nerfed and are nonviable for the run in FRLG -Held Items exist in FRLG -Rock Tunnel is significantly harder to navigate in FRLG -RB use DV's from 0-15 instead of IV's 0-31 -Surge cans are different in FRLG (in that the first can can be in any can, as opposed to only 1/2 in RB) -There are a lot of minor fight and layout differences, such as the youngster on Route 3 being optional in FLRG but mandatory in RB -Catch tutorial is optional in RB -There are definitely more but those are all of the most important and significant off the top of my head

Essentially, it's Red & Blue, but with a new coat of paint.

so which is easier to speedrun, it would seem like FR/LG

Definitely Red & Blue imo. Mechanics are so easy to mess with and exploit that it makes it a much easier run to pull off. Then again, I may be a little bias since I haven't played FR/LG like, ever.

Red and Blue are less BS unless you're going for a top time, in which case they are both stupid as hell. But Red is an easier run hands down.

We haven’t even mentioned FR/LG’s squirtle manipulation that can fail even if you execute it perfectly since the npcs move at random and mess up the manip.
