I am goin to begin work on a human theory TAS today, and I expect to be done with it by mid/late summer, what should/shouldn't I include in it? I will have it include a 462 1-T, which ive gotten once ever in practice, fast 8-2 first try (with the setup ofc), Cycle skip, which perfectly executed is probably a 460 door, probably will include shell route because fire route doesnt save any time if shell route is executed perfectly. probably will pick up shell in 8-T1 from the red block and do damage boost 8-3. any more suggestions? I shouldnt include anything really dumb like deathwarp early or elevator skip on 5-G, shoud I? I dont want to put a ton of effort into something just to have it unappreciated cause I left out something vital, so please comment any suggestions, thanks.

I can maniplate rng by savestating before every RNG event and doing neutral unmorphs to replace double jumps to change up the RNG at the end of the level. With the movement I include in the TAS I might be able to squeeze out fireworks skip on 5-3, but it will probably be pretty close. Im pretty sure I can also do a 367 on 8-6 if I frame perfectly execute a modified strat I came up with. Also just as a side note, the trouble I have with fast 8-2 comes from releasing and repressing A quick enough, while having enough precision to hit the frame. I can get fast accel walljumps in SMB1 1st or second try on a good day, but I can only get fast 8-2 like 15th try on a good day, so I think im probably doing something wrong.

also what is the ram address for marios vertical speed, Id rather not spend half an hour looking for the frame I want to release x on and press a/b. Also, Because Ive only ever TASed segments at a time, I dont know how to edit desmume TAS files, its read + write mode, right?

What do you mean pick up another blue shell in 8-T1? It's impossible to even get the red block on 8-T1 unless you die and have to redo a level; the red block is not congruent with your possible map locations otherwise.

Definitely don't go for any mini mushroom strats because no one has come close to doing them in a run I'm pretty sure.

For the overworld RNG, I can link you to videos of all my gold splits to see what good RNG looks like generally.

ok, so that means backup shell on 8-2, which shouldnt be that hard to manip, cause 8-1 has a lot of room for varying movement of identical speed. I was p sure I shouldnt include mini strats. but I have done deathwarp early and a surprisingly optimal elevator skip (5 vert walljumps) in practice sessions before. oh yeah also a human can get a 709 bowsers castle with the big boy strats, so could I stick that in? remember this is not a demonstration of the community SOB, its a human theory TAS, so the fact that my gold is a 2:19.9 (706) will be entirely irrelevant

Do you mean backup shell on 8-3? Like from the hammer bro at the beginning of the level. I guess you could go for the yump in bowser's castle, but I don't know if anyone has ever done it successfully (and complete the level).

nah, cause I think I can juuuuuuuuust squeeze out fireworks skip on 8-C with humanly possible movement, and 8-7 is faster, and 8-6 has some modified shell only movement that I think might be able to squeeze out a 67.

I'm excited to see what you can pull off. Good luck TASing with DeSmuME though ? I don't know how Hartmann does it. I have even more respect for him after messing around with it.

Desmume crashed while I was recording inputs for the TAS so rip the half hour I spent manipulating an extremely rare redblock pattern. How the fuck hasnt hartmann been drivin clinically insane by this shitty emulator. This is nowhere near as precise or optimized and I already hate it

Turn off advanced bus level timing and run on 9.9, if you run on any version other than 9.9 and/or have advanced bus level timing on, it will desync

If you playback with the same emulation settings as the recording, there is no reason why it should desync

yeah for some reason the TASvideos rules are completely contradictory to those reccomended by the developers of the emulator. TASvideos needs to get its shit together fr, they rejected an optimized NSMB DS low% TAS because it was too boring. Like, excuse me sir? Did you even bother to watch the damn thing? Some of their rules and regulations have just become stupid and unnecessary at this point. I however do agree that 9.9 should be the used emu, cause despite being one of the laggier builds, it is the most console accurate

oh yeah also my gold on bowsers castle is actually a 2:09.9, dont quite know why I typed a 1 instead of a 0. 2:19.9 would be a really terrible gold. Its insane to think that the TAS does that split in under 2 minutes.
