There definitely isn't a 100% category for "all of the resident evil games prior". As Kniferun said, just keep an eye out here for when the Category Extensions actually launch. In the meantime, I suggest running a main category.

California, USAmaxylobes2 years ago

A bit late to answering this, but feel free to route it, run it, and post it here. Collecting All Birds and All Metal Pieces seems like enough to qualify a category like this. I feel like achievements aren't necessary, and probably limits the potential time save in a lot of fights. I believe most skips wouldn't be used either, obviously. Anyways, feel free to post it here and then I'll add it, with rules based on what's shown.

These won't be set up for a little while, as we still need to keep on top of the current Main Game Board verification queue, but let's talk about it now.

Currently, the categories that are seemingly a good fit for the Extension page include: Karambit Only, No Duke, and "100%".

I'd like to hear thoughts on this. I already know there was a lot of interest in being able to run with the Karambit on Casual, following Clairebere's guide to achieve what we'll say is "100%", and not using the Duke.

Considering how many categories there already are, and how many runs are still awaiting verification, we won't be doing this anytime soon. This is simply to encourage people to run the game how they would like, without feeling like you're not a part of the community or somethin. Your run is valid, even if it doesn't have a board to submit to. In time, we can work on making these different ways of running the game available for submission.

Share your thoughts, and we'll jot em' down.

@Cure I mean, it's not like this is some PURE REAL TIME ATTACK ELITE SPEEDRUN COMMUNITY, or anything like that. We just want to eliminate the whole "pay to win" aspect of these modern titles, if possible. It's not like we don't care about Haze's points or anything like that, we just simply agree to disagree. Kinda weird that you would assume that we "don't care", or that this run isn't skillful or fun. Clearly you don't know a whole lot about it. You also don't plan on running it anyways soooo... I gotta admit, Chambers over here kinda hits the nail on the head as a response to your post here. Thought I'd just expand upon it further I guess lol

@RejectedGamerSam An example of resetting checkpoints in a "tactical" manner, is when certain checkpoints are hit, you can pause the moment you see the checkpoint symbol, and restart checkpoint. Sometimes, this will push Ethan further down a path, or make a gate/door open faster. Thus, saving time. Not doing these will not invalidate a run. Only dilly daddling too long, or dying.

California, USAmaxylobes3 years ago

Correct. Patience, runners.

Yeah, you can shoot/launch Heisenberg, and then you have to Knife him when you're out of the vehicle. Also yes, NG+ Knife Only will be available, but it will be on the Category Extensions page, which will release some time after we have the main boards up and ready.

California, USAmaxylobes3 years ago

The Knife Only rules are the same as the Knives Out challenge. Do whatever you can to beat the game as fast as possible, without hitting an enemy with a weapon that isn't the Knife. As soon as you hit an enemy with a weapon that isn't the knife, you'll have to either restart checkpoint, or restart the run. (depending on the time loss)

I've read up on everything here, and I am somewhat disappointed in how some people approached this topic, and/or composed their thoughts. I don't even think the objective of this post's creation was to cause... well, all of this. I'm pretty sure the passion for the game and speedrunning itself is what is causing things to feel hostile here. Especially since it's easy to misinterpret one's true feelings through text. I understand this topic, and have been on both sides of the spectrum in plenty of other games/communities. Yes, it's pretty obvious that the first few minutes before acquiring the knife isn't very significant, but it's still a part of the game that doesn't need to be skipped to cater the minority of people who are doing exactly what EVERYONE should be doing. Just running the game and enjoying it. If a few minutes of gameplay at the beginning really makes you want to stop running the game, then that's on you, and not on the community or moderators for not creating an arbitrary category that will ultimately just split runners apart. Especially since we don't even have the tools to allow such a thing in the first place. Maybe in the future, when this game has been cracked a bit more, there will be a way, and it will be verifiable without us moderators jumping through loops during review.

For now, I ask that everyone just drop this, put that passion towards the game itself, and don't let it get to your head. There's a lot of work to be done, and this is the most exciting time for a fresh speed game. Especially one with so much potential. I'm going to lock this thread, as I would rather not have everyone running in circles and repeating their opinions. Let's go back to more important matters... Good luck, and have fun everyone.

Hey there! As we get closer to the release, I'm writing this up as an introduction and update for everyone who may be interested in Speedrunning Village.

First thing I would like to address, is that there will be absolutely no submissions until May 28th. This 3 week period will give the community an idea of how the game works, and how it will be categorized. Upon the 28th, the moderators will take all of the info gathered, and set up the categories based on community interest, as well as the basic rules and regulations. During this period, we ask that you all be patient, and simply enjoy everything the game has to offer.

Next up, is the Discord. The Discord is already made, but will be open to everyone a few days after the release. This will help us format it correctly, as well as ensure that it's impossible for important things to not be pinned or archived.

Third, the game. How does it work? Will there be the classic RE Engine FPS quirk? Is sequence breaking possible? Is Knife Only possible? These are just a few examples of things we simply won't know until it's been thoroughly played by many different individuals. Let's all do our best to be on the lookout for things, archive it in the appropriate Discord channel, and see where it goes.

Fourth... this forum right here. I can't stress enough how confrontation seems to get out of hand, and has caused a lot of topics to go off the rails in the past two RE releases. I'm asking that you all try to be respectful, try to talk civilly, and don't bring any personal beef into these forums.

Fifth and final thing. Have fun! We're all here to go fast and have a good time doing so. We're all excited, so let's uplift and encourage each other while things are fresh and fun. Good luck to you all, and enjoy Village!

Nope. The game is releasing in less than a week, and they would just be removed when the main boards open up anyways. Although, feel free to run the demo and post it here if you'd like.

Burdening? There is no burdening of anyone. Every person on this moderation team has their own stuff to take care of, as well as other people's lives to take care of. If they have some free time to verify, that's great. Again, I don't see your reasoning for complaining, or prioritizing your run that isn't even in the queue anymore, over the lives of the people who volunteer to approve runs in the first place. Be patient.

I just approved a ton of runs the other night, and I did not even see your run in the queue @wolfrain. Not really sure what the complaint is? So what if it takes a couple weeks? Or even 3? We have lives, ya know.

I've added the category, but seeing as I'm very busy, it is up to you, the community and runners who actually still want to play the game, to decide what is allowed and not allowed for the Glitchless category. For now, I suggest doing things as dev-intended as possible, and then posting any exploits that you think are viable in a new forum post. Best of luck, runners.

California, USAmaxylobes3 years ago

I vote yes, simply based on community outreach. I think this category was shot down previously because people were asking for it for terrible reasoning, such as "I don't like it.", "It's boring.", "My hands hurt from mashing the stairs.".... Now that the game has been optimized and worked on for a little under a year, the reasoning Mike brought up was a lot more solid than what was previously stated. I still think this is simply 5 minutes, and it's kinda weird to just skip it, but I also understand it's an insignificant portion of the game that is wasted on Downtown RNG. Just sharing my thoughts.

Nope. Nobody else seems to use one, and I think it's accepted that everyone just does quick shots/perfect shots the same way. I'll go ahead and put it in the rules now, though. Thanks for the heads up, and good luck.

Here's another video of some smaller time saves. Some of these aren't really worth it, due to how finicky they are, but definitely worth posting.

A fellow speedy friend of mine, H1pp0__, has found some pretty cool new skips for this game. He's very good at finding skips in general, so these may not be the last of them. Here's the new School OoB + Nurse's Office Skip, as well as the Climax Skip.

School Skip:

Climax Skip:

If he finds any more, I'll post them here. Big thanks to him for finding these.
