You can check the time using youtube frame timer, that's the only way I know of.

I had this happen once but had no idea what happened. Good to know!
Timer starts when "GO" appears and ends when the final goal appears on the scoreboard.

I see where you're coming from, I think if there were more runners there would be a higher possibility of split categories. The main problem is that at the moment there's only like 2-3 controller players running in all the categories combined so the controller sections might be pretty empty lol
I think this has been considered before, though they might reconsider it. In the mean time, here's an alternative to the controller infinite flip reset if that's what you need:
I only play on controller and this is after about 10 minutes of practice so while I do think this is harder than on controller, it definitely has potential

I think what might have happened is the game attempted to spawn me in level 7 because when you click a level too soon after pressing "yes" it puts you in world 2. I can't re-create this though.
