I'm usually busy all day Thursday's, Friday's, and Sunday's so those days won't work for me.

I live in the Pacific Time Zone in the USA, and as far as my schedule is, it's pretty much open otherwise. If anybody would like to find me on Skype, feel free, just tell me how you found me (say "NSMB DS Speedrun.com" when you add me).

My skype name is LightOfEon.

The game has always been quite a grind anyways, I guess it won't hurt to try it with the 1-Tower red RNG block.

Really, it's one extra level to manipulate for that red block to go there. It sounds like a lot of work, but it's done pretty easily once you get the hang of it.

Washington, USALightOfEon8 years ago

I'm sorry to destroy your guys information, but the place you actually want to have the red RNG block is in 1-Tower, as grabbing the shell in 1-2 is significantly slower compared to losing only a couple frames in 1-Tower.

Also, it's pretty consistent grabbing the star in 1-2 for the best time.

Actually, using a star with a shell saves no time at all, in fact it loses another 1 to 2 IRT seconds for just grabbing it. and doing the jump trick won't work with a shell and star either, as you'll be at normal full running speed at best.

This is why I recommend that for now on, the future world record runs should grab the shell in 1-Tower, it's about a 10 second IGT save overall.

Sorry, it's been a couple days, I really don't know about the different emulators that could be used. You would have to look into that personally, as it's common sense that it's a 50/50 chance of them being the same timing.

Washington, USALightOfEon8 years ago

I''ve got no opinion on this personally, because I use a DS anyways.

The thing that I'm sure other people would be concerned about though is that, since the math / data etc... was done for Wii U VC, why not also do it for Emulator, and the DSi download version, and the 3DS download version. If it's to be done for one console, it should be done with the rest of them as well, so they can all match the original.

I'm not saying that every console that I listed off will actually need it (some might), but rather it's just the incentive to make them all even.

Emulator, for example, is faster than the DS, but not as fast as Wii U VC. So the math and data will definitely be different.

Also, do you think just for the sake of other people, you could actually post the data you got for the loading time differences?

That's all I know I can say for now <3

I see where you are coming from Scott. However, you can't carry it through the map screen to the next level, and lose it or let it ware out by then.

To me anyways, it sounds like it would be the same concept as collecting 100 coins for a 1-Up, and calling the 1-Up a power up (or even a green mushroom if you will). It only gives you lives, it doesn't effect your overall performance in all the levels throughout the run of the game as a whole. It only allows for an extra death and, as we know, deaths in all the levels (in Low%) are slower than just taking it a little safe.

This is why I would think the Super Star is okay to use. It is a temporary power up, and is impossible to carry on to the next level.

Washington, USALightOfEon8 years ago

I just actually figured out how to avoid the first star coin in 2-1, but it's a (near) frame perfect trick.

You just have to be able to bounce in the correct places to do a super bounce directly over the coin, which also puts you over the pokey if you hold the B button for the duration of the whole jump, and wastes no time.

However, the whole thing about making the "no star coins" rule is pointless, because it would be the same route anyways. Low% should just be beating the correct levels without SPENDING any star coins or grabbing power ups.

I do however think that grabbing a super star should be ok, because it's only a temporary thing (you can't carry it into the next level).

That's my input <3

I agree,

@Mishu it's really nice that you took the record from me in NSE when you did.

However, neither of us have any video proof, even though I believe your run is a legit run (as it beats mine). And I haven't really tried since.

But it would be cool if the standard was actually written in the rules of the three main categories. "Any world records posted as of January 27, 2016 require video proof."

Just my suggestion.

I'd actually like to argue against that 1-Tower, if I may.

Everything freezes in the level except the timer. Essentially, you lose 1 second IGT for grabbing any power-up due to the animation freezing everything except Mario's changing animation.

Obstacles that aren't enemies or "?" blocks are not on a spawn cycle, so the only time they're not moving is when you grab a power-up, which, as I said before, loses 1 second IGT.

So actually, excuse my mistake I made earlier, but you should still be in the launching pipe by the end of 459 on the timer, to finish the level effectively by 451 in IL times.

Even though it's faster IRT to open doors in the middle of them by just about a quarter of a second (boss doors half a second IRT), which still does cause a 450 ending time when done perfectly.

I'm all for it, just gotta get Ewallers attention somehow.

I'm sorry, I've been inactive in this forum thread. My laptop screen cracked and I'm in the process of getting it fixed.

There's a lot of things I saw. I'll try to name off a couple before I head off to work.

6-2 Pipe Skip: I've never seen that, and by the looks of it, it's extremely hard to time with the flying blocks. You're very lucky that everything in this game is on a spawn cycle instead of a universal cycle. That trick is hard and the universal backup is to just enter the pipe. There's not a ton of time loss for entering the Pipe.

1-4 Flower: I only say to grab that flower because chances are, anybody will get hit in W2 before the autoscroller comes up.

Looking @koffingrockz W1 IW:

1-1 Stair strategy is perfect. 1-2 You should use the R button at the beginning all the way until you see the second coin. 1-3 Looks perfect. 1-Tower You should be in the launching pipe by the end of 460 for a perfect launch. With how you were able to optimize the Bowser JR fight, you could finish the level by 451. 1-4 Looks perfect. 1-5 Is hard to optimize, and it's all a preference on how it's run. NICE SAVE Kappa 1-A Has it been tested to be faster IRT to skip the pipe going to the second coin? 1-Castle Looks perfect

That's all I have time to write for now

I run this game too, unrecorded. The thing is that people like Spikevegeta and (and possibly Michael_Goldfish) I'm assuming are active runners in their appropriate games.

I don't see any reason why they're inactive on this website, unless they don't post their PB runs themselves of any other games.

The other mods I have no idea about.

However, the only solution is updating the mod list to have more active people. This seems to be a rare occurrence in DKC and Mario games.

Even though I believe you, I still partially stick to what I said earlier.

Washington, USALightOfEon8 years ago

It would probably not hurt to put it under the misc categories, assuming people still run this game.

Washington, USALightOfEon8 years ago

I just now thought of an addition.

I would like to see (as a misc category, until it gets popular [hopefully]) a category called "All Castles"

You go through every world possible with the Any% route of each world. It does not allow the use of cannons (so beating W5 boss twice is 100% required.)

Washington, USALightOfEon8 years ago

I would like to see No Secret Exits moved to a misc. category, and Low% moved to a main category. I also think having cannonless as a main category is a good idea.

That's how it appears to be in any other NSMB game that has those categories posted.

Otherwise, I don't have a preference on adding or removing categories.

Washington, USALightOfEon8 years ago

That just makes it too complicated @koffingrockz

All exits is just 100%, only without the rest of the star coins in the game (apart from the ones you get in all levels). The route would pretty much be the same considering items, and as somebody said earlier in this post, it would only add a couple minutes. And it was also mentioned that the community for this game is too small right now, therefore it doesn't get as much love as SMW does.

We should wait till we get more than what seems like 4 people running this game to add anymore categories.

If you could get Ewaller's attention, he might do it.

Washington, USALightOfEon8 years ago

I would like to see a column added for the power up that you started the level with, and another column that has the reserve. Something like this, if it makes sense:

Power Up: None Mushroom Flower Shell Mini

Reserve (If activated): None Mushroom Flower Shell Mini Mega

Where clicking on either "Power Up" or clicking on "Reserve (If activated)" makes the drop down menu with the other options below them.

Washington, USALightOfEon8 years ago

I would personally prefer it to be like NSMBW has it. It just seems more clean IMO.

Washington, USALightOfEon8 years ago

Previous world records in this game have infact skipped runs, Ewallers run (as far as I know) is the only world record that has no skips.

May RNGesus be with you.
