The restreams are more or less live, and they are looking for the languages. The English commentary is pretty much what's done there at the event.
I have Free Play RTA accepted into ESA Winter 2019, a speedrunning marathon that will be happening in February. My run is on Tuesday the 19th and it would be nice if someone who can give insightful comments about the run would be able to commentate for the restreams. The languages that they definitely will be restreaming are French and German, but possibly Russian and Spanish as well.
That being said, I don't have anyone planned for my couch commentary so if you are actually going to the event, it would be nice to have someone commentating beside me too.
Ah yes, inputs. It's not actually random, but some doors are easier to clip than others, and some doors are just straight up unclippable, prime example being the doors in the section of 5-5 we actually play in FPRTA. What you want to do here is abuse Yoda's third attack, if you take his attacks in sets of 3. His third lunges him slightly higher and slightly faster. You need to set it up so that the second of his attacks is diagonal to the door and then within 10 frames of pressing the attack button a third time, press in the direction of the door. Hope this helps - I'll try and explain it differently if it doesn't. Also, not sure if you heard or not but I'm running this at ESA Winter :)
Further notice - 4-5 boosts would save time if it does work as I think it does, but only in the All Levels category. This is because we buy Infinite Torpedoes after episodes 1 and 2.
Sorted. Zulice never actually told me I was a mod and decided to make me one and remove himself. But I took care of it, don't worry.
Interesting. Recently found in LSWTCSDS, you can use Yoda to clip through things like forcefields and doors, because he carries a lot of speed with his attacks. But I don't think anyone has more speed than anyone else in this game, so I'm not sure what to suggest in terms of making it more consistent.
I'm sorry I missed this - The best way would be to start with either Chapter 1 or 3, in level 5, to save time on movement between levels. In the final chapter, which would be either 1 or 3 depending on which one you did first, start at level 1 to save movement. This is the case for Hero or Villain runs. However, for All Levels runs, it would be best to start at either the end of Chapter 1 in Hero or the end of Chapter 3 in Villain. Although I believe when leaving the asylum you're sent to the center of the Batcave so that would mean it's best to start in Hero C1.
Good question since I hadn't clarified that in the rules - I'm going to say no, although I could add subcategories for with and without if you'd prefer.
Gotcha. I actually wasn't aware that Newer DX was a thing, so I might wait until that's released to do runs but thanks for the replies.
I am considering learning this game, but I was thinking about how there's no category in between Any% and 100% which is unusual for modern 2D Mario games. This is a very large game too. Usually, the most popular middle category would be cannonless, but there are no cannons in this game. So I thought about no alternate worlds, but nah. Any% only goes to World C as it is. So perhaps No Secret Exits would be the best middle category here as it forces playing more levels aside from those side worlds as well.
I'd also like to suggest a separate 1.2.0 board while I'm at it, but I understand if this doesn't get put up.
Video is required and that is not going to change. Sorry for the late reply.
I've added a slight timing change to many of the categories, since many new players were making mistakes with timing rules. @drgrumble I would like you to help with retiming if possible, but please let me know if you can't.
That would be Maxje's mistake. He used to time things a bit strangely, like he would use real time for his original runs. I'm also not sure where he got 3:45 though.
If you can get it not to lag, try using Desmume. The latest version is 0.9.11 I think.
I'd just like to say, KingJ's previous account was banned for submitting too many runs without video at the cusp of the times that required video.
For the Any% runners out there, I realized that there's a strat that you can do to speed up the "chase sections" in the Death Star flying levels. In these sections, if you get shot, you'll get a small forward boost, and it's fine to do this as much as possible because you don't even get set back from dying in these sections. I hope this will at least be slightly useful.
