So based on restrictions, right now I'm intending to structure the boards like this. If there's any suggestions to have this be different, I do ask that you please keep the following things in mind as they are undesirable over just having a longer list of stages of stats as the solution

  • Subcategories for a column category are not gonna be shown on the Show All page or in the list on the sidebar.
  • Too many column categories are gonna squish the horizontal width of the field, making it so times and names possibly won't fit properly. Right now the max for making it look decent seems to be 5 columns.

As for the current method, some things that could be changed depending on people's wishes:

  • Bosses mixed in with their respective zones, instead of bunched up
  • Bosses bunched up by day/night instead of in order of appearance
  • Non-DLC stages and DLC stages bunched up respectively, instead of mixed in like the current setup

Additional notes:

  • Times for Eggmanland must be submitted under the Day category

....................................................................Day................Night Windmill Isle Act 1 Windmill Isle Act 1-2 Windmill Isle Act 1-3 Windmill Isle Act 2 Windmill Isle Act 2-2 Windmill Isle Act 3 Windmill Isle Act 4 Savannah Citadel Act 1 Rest of the Acts Eggmanland Egg Beetle Dark Gaia Phoenix Dark Moray Egg Devil Ray Dark Guardian Egg Lancer Egg Dragoon Dark Gaia

One more thing I'd like input on: currently I intend to do the boards like this, with bosses mixed in with the rest of their respective zone (only reason being I think it looks nicer). Would anyone prefer to have all the bosses bunched up together, instead of spread out out across the specific zones?

...........................................................Sonic......................Super Sonic Tropical Resort Act 1 Tropical Resort Act 2 Tropical Resort Act 3 Tropical Resort Act 4 Tropical Resort Act 5 Tropical Resort Act 6 Tropical Resort Boss Sweet Mountain Act 1 etc.

Thanks for all the discussion so far. To sum up what I'm planning to do for Heroes when I get a chance to put up the boards, based on the feedback thus far here and in the discord:

  • View all page will look something like this: ............................................Team Sonic........Team Dark.....Team Rose.....Team Chaotix Seaside Hill Seaside Hill Extra Ocean Palace Ocean Palace Extra Rest of the stages Egg Hawk Team 1 Robot Carnival Rest of the bosses

  • Team Blast Glitch will be banned only for Team Dark, Robot Carnival, Robot Storm & Metal Madness/Overlord

  • For the teamfights, if either team is moved before control is naturally gained (i.e. restart glitches), the time is disqualified from the boards.

  • Segmenting through checkpoints allowed, with a variable so people can filter for it

  • Pausing to gain an advantage allowed, no variable for the time being, but this can be added if enough people want it

Yeah that's roughly the structure I'm thinking of, it'll be a long list but the least shite option considering the site's heavy restrictions.

NetherlandsCriticalCyd3 years ago

SB, there are no tabs. You get 1 page with 1 set of rows and 1 set of columns.

You can technically specify further with a tier of subcategories, but only the 1st subcategory will show up on the "view all" page.

NetherlandsCriticalCyd3 years ago

As the original post states: It's significantly easier to have a global rule for this than to make a ton of exceptions and discussions about “but well actually, I didn't benefit from stuff carrying over”.

Please make my life easier haha

Re: TBG, that's fair Deku. I'd still like to extend the TBG ban to at least Robot Carnival, Robot Storm and Metal Madness/Overlord however, to avoid "spam TBG to win" and since Madness has a Dark section. I can see the value for the other teams. Curious how other people feel about it.

Re: pausing, that's a maybe for now, simply for the sake of not wanting to drown the stats in too many variables, but we're discussing a similar thing for Unleashed so I'm not opposed (it is admittedly a much more heated topic there). Would like more input from others on this.

5 columns does indeed work (any more would be too much), but I feel like any solution that hides a few specific ILs in subcategories looks both horribly inconsistent and takes a bit of appeal away from those ILs. Not to mention the inevitable "why is there no seperate categories for the -2 stages?" questions.

I understand the fear for a giant vertical list, but for games with many acts & variables I feel like it's the least obnoxious option. While the dropdown menu would be long, it makes submissions more straight forward as well, rather than needing a 3rd dropdown menu only for a few ILs.

NetherlandsCriticalCyd3 years ago

I'd say it's better for competition to not allow restart glitches for early control on boss fights yeah, good point. Especially since the effects of those differ by platform

NetherlandsCriticalCyd3 years ago

Yes it does DGF and this will have the same types of columns BUT I have to choose 1 set of columns for ALL ILs.

I can't do Modern/Classic for half of it, then Skills/No Skillsfor the other half

NetherlandsCriticalCyd3 years ago

Sadly I can't have Skills / No Skills as the columns for part of the stages, then Normal / Hard as columns for another set of stages, then Modern / Classic for yet another set of stages.

The site is horribly restrictive, I can't make different tabs for different sets of stages, all ILs are forced to share the same columns.

NetherlandsCriticalCyd3 years ago

Some additional info about the board structure: Extra stages will be included yes. The stages will be added as "Seaside Hill" "Seaside Hill Extra" "Ocean Palace" "Ocean Palace Extra".

You'd theoretically get less blank spots by adding "Team x Extra" as subcategories, but having too many of those will make the "view all" page look extremely cramped and squished together as the site does not support horizontal scroll bars and will instead make the columns more narrow.

I'd rather have a giant row of empty spots on the challenges, than have multiple rows of empty spots on the main stages (which I reckon will get the most attention anyway). Similar to my reply on the Unleashed boards, I'd rather extend the boards vertically with a scroll bar, than horizontally where it will be cramped.

NetherlandsCriticalCyd3 years ago

I tried it out and since the site doesn't do horizontal scroll bars, it makes the "view all" page look very cramped. It sorta works when the stats are empty, but once you get times and usernames in there it'll be very squished together. http://puu.sh/GgwZh/5396debae5.jpg

I feel like going for a more vertical view would work better, considering the amount of acts that exist on some zones.

With TSC submissions being down since March and the site's infrastructure growing more outdated by the second, it's finally time to put some IL leaderboards up here. The change won't happen untill after SGDQ as I simply won't have the time, but I wanted to get this thread up ahead of time to list how I intend to structure the boards, as well as gather some input from the community about several points.

Rules: Video is required Emulators are banned Runs must be done in Time Attack mode

There will not be a transfer of any existing statistics from TSC or other sites. The sheer workload would be huge as is, even more so if we contact every person to ask if they're ok with having their stats transferred to begin with. A lot of stats on TSC are without video to begin with, so even if we did a stat transfer, it would still result in an incomplete board. The intention is to give these boards a fresh start and let the people decide for themselves whether they want their stats here or not. This will make the boards start out empty of course, but if the community wills it, the boards can evolve into the primary IL boards on the internet.

The emulator rule might be a bit unnecessary since the game has a PC version, but I'd like to have it there for clarity as experimental WiiU emulators do exist.

If you have any thoughts about any of the above or something I didn't mention, post here. It'll be a while before the change is implemented, so you'll have plenty time to get your thoughts in.

Lastly, keep in mind that verification will take a while during the initial wave. Especially since this is not the only game that will be getting IL boards. Should the workload become too large for the existing mods, I'll be sure to recruit someone from the community to help verify.

For the boards there is 2 potential structures and I'd like your input on what you would prefer:

  1. “Green Hill Classic” “Green Hill Modern” as the stage names and Skills / No Skills as subcategories
  2. “Green Hill” as the stage name and Modern / Classic as the subcategories, but Skills / No Skills as a variable that people can filter for (both shown by default) Due to the structure of the site's IL boards these are the 2 most viable options. Unlike full game categories, having multiple tiers of subcategories doesn't really work for the IL boards.

The emulator rule might be a bit unnecessary since the game has a PC version, but I'd like to have it there for clarity.

The boards will be structured by stage, with a subcategory for Day and Night. DLC stages will be included in the main boards. Some stages will not have the same amount of Day and Night stages, but unfortunately the site does not allow me to pick and choose which stages get which subcategory, so a few will have to remain empty.

I intend to keep emulators banned for the forseeable future as emulators for this generation are still in its infant stage and lag plays a significant factor in Sonic Unleashed, giving emulator runners an advantage.

Since it was such a hot point of discussion in the past, if people want we can have a variable for whether a run uses pausing to gain an advantage or not. Both options will be shown by default as both are valid, but this way the people that want to see the best runs without pause usage can easily filter for it. Based on people's playstyles in the past, he ruling for this would most likely be that pausing for QTE's does not qualify a run for pause advantage, but any other scenarios do. Please let me know what you think on this topic as the result of this will be decided by what the majority of the community wants.

  • Times gotten during Egg Shuttle are not allowed with exception of Tropical Resort Act 1.

The boards will be structured by stage, with a subcategory for Super Sonic. Game Land will also be added of course. Some stages do not have Super Sonic available, but unfortunately the site does not allow me to pick and choose which stages get the subcategory, so they'll just remain empty. And no I do not intend to have a board for Terminal Velocity Act 2 lol.

To clarify extra on the Egg Shuttle rule: since boost and rings carry over, it allows for boost management, damage boost or Shuttle exclusive skips that can result in a faster time. I'd like to avoid having any IL turn into “Let's go all the way through Egg Shuttle to have 1 try at getting an IL PB”. Therefore IL PB's you happen to get during an Egg Shuttle speedrun cannot be submitted. It's significantly easier to have a global rule for this than to make a ton of exceptions and discussions about “but well actually, I didn't benefit from stuff carrying over”.
