Playing Teleroboxer involves the L & R buttons, and both D-Pads. (The A and B buttons are not used when fighting against boxers, but they're used for name input; this is covered below.) Given that the A and B buttons are almost never used, if you're playing on emulator, but using a controller of some kind, you can assign the A and B buttons to your keyboard, so you can use the four face buttons as the right D-Pad (that's what I do) - the Start button is what is generally used for file selecting and most confirmations. Alternately, you can use both sticks as the D-Pads if you prefer, so that you can assign the A and B buttons on your controller somewhere. I don't fault either setup, it comes down to what you're most comfortable with.

The L & R buttons execute punches - L for left fist, R for right fist. In conjunction with the d-pads, you can throw four different kinds of single punches; you hold a direction on the appropriate pad, and press that fist's shoulder button. "Outward" means left on the left D-pad, but right on the right d-pad; "inward" means just the opposite. ¤ Up (or No Direction) + Punch = Jab ¤ Down + Punch = Uppercut ¤ Outward + Punch = Hook ¤ Inward + Punch = Body Blow

Moving your fists without punching allows you to block incoming punches. Raise your fists (press Up) to block jabs and hooks, or protect your lower body with Down or inward to block things like uppercuts and body blows.

Importantly, if you hold both fists in an up, down, inward, or outward position for long enough, they will start flashing, which indicates you can press L & R at the same time to perform one of your special Machine Gun punches. You'll produce the type you charged (up for jabs, down for uppercuts, outward for hooks, inward for body blows). These cause a lot of pain if you can hit your opponent with them.

If a combatant's health gauge is flashing, the next strong hit that connects will stun them. The game counts uppercuts and hooks as "strong" punches; jabs and body blows count as "weak" punches. Connecting with any manner of Machine Gun move also counts as a "strong" blow (so if they're flashing, and you somehow connect with a Machine Gun move, it will stun them, and then you can do ¤another¤ Machine Gun move while they're stunned).

Typically, boxers start the fight in a "normal" state, and generally become "angry" when they have half their health remaining; they'll get faster, and start changing up their moves more, including things such as using their special moves more often. Some boxers may become angry early if you perform certain punches on them during their "normal" phase.

You may notice that the game does not ask you to input a name when you first start a file; that's because the game doesn't care about your name until you qualify to fight the final boss, the True Champion. If you qualify after defeating the game's first 7 boxers (by having 0 losses on your record at the time), the game will finally ask for your name. Use the left D-Pad to pick letters, and press A to confirm them; scroll over "End" and confirm that to finish.

You can only view the credits if you defeat the True Champion at the end of the game. If you have any losses on your record before defeating boxer 7 (Tukikage), that file can never fight the True Champion, and therefore can never see the credits. It basically becomes a garbage file, and you'll probably want to delete it, as it can't go any farther anyway - if you Continue a file that has beaten Tukikage, but doesn't qualify, it'll just remind you that you don't qualify to fight the True Champion, and boot you back to the title screen.

If you defeat the True Champion and watch the credits, pressing Start after they finish, your file goes into Title Defense Mode, where you get a roulette of all 8 boxers (including the True Champion), and all fighters are angry from the start of the fight, instead of becoming angry at half health. This mode continues, and you keep building wins, until you lose to someone, lose your title as Champion, and then the file is done and becomes a garbage file at that point.

That covers the basics of what to expect when playing Teleroboxer.
