Outdated fast mode runs?

With the devs acknowledging that people want to go faster and faster, they keep making fast mode even quicker each patch.

Obviously I'm completely for this, but how do we make the distinction with runs that are on slow fast mode and fast mode?

If someone beats my current time, which will happen soon, they won't technically be on the same fast mode.

I don't know if there's actually an issue here or whether I'm just over thinking it, but I thought I'd bring it up anyway!

I'm honestly somewhat confused why we even bother separating Fast Mode and not Fast Mode. In theory, going forward, why even bother running Not Fast Mode? The only difference between the two is that it's slower. I get that it sucks for those who established records before Fast Mode existed, as their records are for the most part going to be overridden by new Fast Mode records, but that's the inherent nature of speedrunning Early Access or Betas of games. I'm for condensing based on character Any%, regardless of fast mode vs slow mode, and regardless of fast mode V1 or V2.

Well, its not an issue per se, because we all have that advantage now. Whilst I understand what you are saying, is there any reason that we don't just leave the runs that are up as they are and as time passes they will obsolete themselves? Unless you are suggesting that the current runs get archived for history's sake?

My suggestion is that the runs that aren't on fast mode and the runs that are on fast mode be combined into single "Ironclad Any%" and "The Silent Any%" categories, the slow mode runs by runners that have fast mode faster runs become obsolete, and those that don't are just left. Hell, we could even add a column to the table indicating "Slow Mode" or "Fast Mode". It's just silly to have the two be separate, since slow mode is effectivly obsolete, and thus won't be ran any more, or at least, there's no logical reason to run Slow Mode anymore.

Edit: I guess that reply was more intended to be a response to Jimquisitive. Oops

So we have two separate discussions occurring here. One that Jim brought up, and one that I've already addressed and answered.

Jim, to your question, that is the nature of a rapidly evolving early access game and unfortunately there is no possible way we could keep up with that. The leaderboards would need to be reset nearly every update if we wanted to keep it that clean. Times will just have to naturally obsolete themselves/eachother and eventually they will plane out. Keeps the competition fresh and gives you something to fight for ;). Jim is a great streamer and does his runs live BTW if anyone reading this wasn't aware of that.

To the second point, as I have mentioned in another thread, the slow mode category remains because people MAY want to run slow mode. And if they do, it's only fair to have a category that allows them a level playing field. If by the end of early access the numbers show that nobody is running slow mode and it's taking up space, I will remove the categories. But as of right now, there is zero harm in having the categories there as an option. It's impacting no one.
