Great example of an alternate route I've been using: Use a Super Pike Ball in Spittle Maze to farm a key off the Wetman, then skip the Batgal key in Cackle Tower. It's been my preferred start to make the most of a run that doesn't start with a Pirate Flare, as it's significantly faster than going for the Batgal key assuming you can afford the extra SPB.
