Is it really necessary to have to play the long ass intro in the beginning of the run
No, recently the timing rules have been changed. You can start your run from a "0 file" (so without cutscene)
Quote from rules : "-Timing starts when you gain control of luigi on the map screen. (-1:47.15 from New Game or -4.85 from a 0 file)"
