Hello everyone !

I am opening this topic following the huge amount of runs we have received recently to talk about several subjects.

First of all, I would like to welcome and thank everyone who has been posting runs. I hope it's only the beginning and that you will all continue having fun!

I would also like to introduce our new moderator : Nore139. I was thinking about adding a new moderator and Nore reached out to me before I even asked anyone so huge thanks to them ! If any of you is having trouble with english you can ask Nore for any question or suggestion you have in Japanese if that is easier for you.

Alright now to the main topic. As you all have seen, the mini games on setting is causing quite the trouble as getting a mini game can make you lose an insane amount of time. At first I thought it wouldn't be an issue because it would force people to try to keep everyone alive as much as possible but in runs with a lower amount of human players, it is way too slow and unreliable to help bots go without issues. Some people may like that parameter since the game is made to be silly and fun but others will want to remove as much RNG as possible from the run. There are also some skips involving dying on purpose so even if you only die on those skips you still run the risk of getting mini games.

With all of that said we want to implement new categories into the game. That said, there are plenty of ways we could do this and we would like to make it the best we could. We have to take different factors into a count :

1 : If we make a new category, do we keep the current category up or do we delete it ? And if we keep it, do we make the new "any% no mini games" category as the main one or should we still have the "any% regular options" for the front page ?

2 : What about turbo mode ? Making categories both with and without turbo mode for the minigames on and off categories will let us with 4 different categories in hands, all of which can be played with up to 4 players, and that is without counting the half marathon, story mode, and single level categories. The leaderboard would become quite a mess in that case. There are once again several possibilities for this, the first one being to chose if we do use turbo mode or not in runs and stick with that decision. The second one is to chose some game modes in which it is interesting to keep both turbo mode on and off parameters possible and try to make it all look good and easy to find. We could also decide to give the option for every categories if you think that is better. In that case I will of course try to make it as clean as possible.

3 : What about the individual levels and other sub categories ? I personally thought about switching individual level runs to "no mini games, turbo mode on" only but that would mean erasing all the runs we have now. Of course it probably isn't that bad since there are not many IV runs at the moment but still I would like to know what everyone thinks before taking a decision about all of that.

And I think that is it for now. I will update the topic if I think of anything else or if I have different suggestions. Feel free to join the discord if you want to discuss this in more details, or simply write your thoughts in here so it is accessible more easily for everyone.

Thank you for reading and have a great day everyone !

Hi Daraxys and all.

I too think the discussion about the mini game setting is important for the future.

"any% no mini games" would be a great way to compete for pure technique (even though the behavior of the bots is still very random). However, I also think that "any% regular options" should remain. The basic way it was originally designed to be played should be respected, and this category has its own unique fun factor. The presence of mini games greatly increases the risk of game interruptions, which creates the need to run while keeping bots alive at all costs. You don't see this kind of approach in speedrun of other games? In fact, this is what got me hooked on this game's speedrun!

So I'd like to see "any% regular options" remain (preferably on the front page).

How about adding a category for "any% no mini games" or "any% free options" to the current categories for better visibility of the leaderboards? When the new categories become more popular and the old ones become obsolete, we can discuss changing the front page again.

As for the individual levels and other sub categories, I think mini games are less of a problem since the course is shorter than a full marathon. However, I haven't run it yet, so I'd like to hear other people's opinions on this.

That's all for my opinion. Please decide as you want to do. I'm sorry if it's not easy to read in my poor English. Thank🦐 you🦄 very👴 much🐶.

Thanks for the input. I've talked to Etarnal_wind and ZeroNine.

I would like to have Turbo. As for the problem of leaderboatds being hard to see, I found something I can refer to. https://www.speedrun.com/sbr

I believe that "any% regular options" should remain. There are some techniques that are unique to this category. I would like to keep a record of our runs so far.

Alright, thanks everyone for your feedback :)

I think you are both right, we can probably get it to work like that, thanks Nore for the example I was not sure if something like that was doable.

I will start implementing the main categories first as it is the most important, individual level changes may come later so runners who are interested in running those should already remove mini games and use turbo mode if they want (even though as Porifera said, mini games do not make much of a difference in these categories)

I will keep the regular options category as the main one for now and we will change that later if another category becomes the most competitive one.

I will try to implement all of this as soon as possible, sorry if it is taking me some time and thank you all for your patience !

Also, please try to keep your PB runs somewhere easy for you to find just in case something goes wrong when modifying the leaderboards. There should not be any issue but it's better to be safe just in case. If you do not see your run after the changes, feel free to message one of us or/and to post it again.

I will also modify the discord to have a Japanese room if you are interested, I don't know how confident all of you are in English and I do not want that to be an issue. But do not be scared to write in english for posts like this ! At worst if it is not understandable I will just ask.

Thanks for reading and I hope you are all having a great day !
