How to time the runs? (OUTDATED - "the first frame of movement")
Updated 3 years ago by coachen

The following guide is outdated and must be treated as an archived guide. The method explained in it applies only to runs that had been submitted before 21st February 2021. For all runs submitted after this day, a new method called "the first visible frame" will be in use. Please check out Main rules for more informations. Since the new method is simplier than the old one, it is not expected that there is going to be a separate guide explaining it in as detailed way as this one had explained it.

Hello. This guide will be useful both for moderators and for speedrunners submitting their runs, since the guide is about the method used to estimate their times.

Basically, in all categories (ILs included) the rule is simple: time begins on the first visible frame of Moy's movement and ends on the frame in which Moy touches the door (the doorknob, to be more precise), which is manifested by the disappearance of the control buttons.

It looks like in the pictures below. Take a look at this photo: https://i.imgur.com/QdSRJSi.png

That's how the starting position looks like. It is a position that Moy has right after starting the level, when a player DID NOT moved the character.

Now, let's take a look here: https://i.imgur.com/yZUsx1n.png

It might not be seen that easily at first, but this is the first frame of the run, because Moy actually moved (here: slightly to the right). This is the moment from which a player have to start estimating the time of the run.

As for the last frame, as was mentioned above, it is the frame in which Moy reaches the doors (=touches the doorknob), which is manifested by the control buttons disappearing. It looks like that: https://i.imgur.com/3lRtUu8.png

The screenshot above is not the last frame, since the buttons are still visible despite Moy being close to the doors; the screenshot below presents the last frame - the buttons disappeared when Moy reached the doors. This is the moment in which times of all runs have to end.

I hope I explained it without leaving any doubts. It is my first guide on this site, so I apologize if there were any inaccuracies of some sort.
