I wrote my thoughts on the current board and how to fix it in a pastebin:

Cyber, what users have "left the game and deleted their accounts" because of this change? Runs in different difficulty are not the "same speedrun". In-game time and forcing single segment is also not an option. I pushed for timing without loads once, but when I did not get the support I dropped it completely, so that chance was lost. Also running in an emulator faster than all the official versions is simply something that cannot be allowed.

Now whatever is done here is simply waiting for the merge with mmrta, after which we'll just carry on. There is nothing left to say about this topic. The leaderboard changes are here to stay.

You do not need to force anything to be single segment, and easy and normal runs are literally the same thing.
Also, to answer your first question, cirno has deleted his account, and 8bit plans on never using the boards again.

  IzraillIzraill

cirno doesn't even run x6 anymore, so that leaves 8bit as the only one doing it, and you and 8bit were the only "relevant" people to not want the split and voice your opinions in time, more people wanted the split, so it happened. Story end. And easy and normal, as slight the difference may be, are not the same thing.

  Cyberdemon531Cyberdemon531

Cirno is still an x6 runner, and he is currently running the game, so saying he isnt relevant is insulting.

Also, if normal and easy are separated why can't we have non-hyper dash categories?

  IzraillIzraill

Because hyperdash is not an option in the options menu that you choose and set before starting a run. That's why.

  Cyberdemon531Cyberdemon531

So if thats the criterion for a new category, why isn't slow mode a category?

  IzraillIzraill

It could be, but no one runs it. Really, I may just go ahead and delete all the (empty) categories because of that reason.

Also, your ad hominems are great to remove validity of your argument.

That's irrelevant banter and you know it. I presented an argument which you refuse to respond to fully, and now threaten to delete the thread because you don't agree with it?

Fine moderation.

  IzraillIzraill

Where did I threaten to delete the thread? Where did I not respond to the argument?

  Cyberdemon531Cyberdemon531

Oh I misread your previous post about deleting empty categories, my bad.

And you didn't reply to my pastebin linked, all you did was ask questions and make incorrect and uninformed assertions

for the sake of transparency i'm hijacking this topic to discuss the (hopefully final) set of changes to the leaderboard.

i discussed the leaderboards with cyber this morning, and we agreed to the following for now:

-Separate PS1 and XC as different versions of the game.
-All runs will be timed in RTA (timing start on selecting Game Start and ending on the final hit on Hell Sigma).
-Standardize PS1 categories on Normal difficulty and ban FDS. Allow Xebra/Arbex/PSHawk as emulators.
-List all difficulties together (minus 100% easy) for XC. List GCN/PS2 on the same leaderboard.
-New runs on emulated XC will not be allowed. Runs submitted before today on PS2 emulator will be listed temporarily (probably for a few months) to give runners time to either improve their times on platform or to switch to a different version.

we are still considering changing timing methods to either loadless RTA or IGT in order to allow all versions to be considered together, but this will require more discussion/research. we will continue to discuss the matter, both privately and publicly, and keep you guys updated.

if anyone has any questions, feel free to either post here or talk to me privately.

Why on earth would you ban difficulties? Mostly speaking for 100% on easy, since normal is the fastest for that category

  orsaorsa

Fixed. Even though Xtreme is theoretically faster for 100% (according to Izraill), it makes the run signficantly harder and more unrealistic. Thus, we've agreed to allow any difficulty for PS1 100%.

Easy is not allowed for any% and all stages because runs on Easy are faster than the standardized difficulty. If you want to do Easy any% or all stages, run on XC.
