Site Board Discussion

When you jump off a wall, X is fixed in place for a shorter period of time, changing how optimal climbing is done, and X naturally jumps higher everywhere in the game, not just when walking left on slippery ice. There's also no lag, which affects what strategies you can opt for.

That's not even to mention load time differences, which aren't gameplay, but still need to be accounted for if you want to compare platforms.

There aren't significant gameplay differences between All Stages and No Doppler Skip, that's a route decision.

Here's how the board should look: Categories: SNES, Arranged Subcategories, Any%, Low%, 100%, Misc: All Stages, No Doppler Skip, Buster Only

If you format it like this, it makes the board look cleaner and have misc categories only show up for their particular version.

EX: Doom has 4 episodes, and then the categories for each episode show up underneath, makes viewing the runs and understanding the formatting significantly easier, and also allows misc categories to be handled more effectively

Also, why are low% and any% different categories if they're just a different route decision?

Percentage completion isn't about route, it's about item collection. Collecting items to go fast disqualifies a run from low% because a run that does not collect those items would have a lower completion percentage. For instance, low% doesn't exist in x1 because low% is the fastest way to finish the game, so that's just the any%. I feel like I shouldn't need to explain this.

But here's the thing: the route differences cause a gameplay difference that saves/loses several minutes and changes the entire course of the run. Why can't they be separated? The goal of each is completely different, they are not comparable. The only reason to merge them is to consolidate "space" as if it were limited, but it isn't.

you're misidentifying the runs. My run isn't done as "Complete X3 with all mavericks defeated", it's "Complete X3 without using the Doppler Skip glitch", that's a route decision that makes the game completely different.

Also, by this same logic, why does All stages even exist to begin with? Any% and All Stages both get similar items, if not the exact same items, so why even have All Stages?

Could you point out to me where in crak_atak's run he picks up items? I'm not seeing him do anything remotely similar to All Stages, almost as if they're very different in goal choice and execution.

United States

Crak_atak used to pick up items until he realized that not picking up items is faster. However, look at all the other runs in that same board. They all get the saber. Should they be a different category?

Why does orsa's run deserve its own category when it can just be in the any% column but with a "slower route decision"?

Could you please stop spammimg the fucking forum with messages that are one line long? This isnt a fucking chat, this is a forum. Say everything in one post or edit it if you forgot anything. Getting 10 notifications because of your incapacity in using something so simple as a forum is starting to get annoying.

My XC run also does all stages and it's marked under any%. Technically, it's done without doppler skip. I'm fine with wherever my run goes, since it's on the site to begin with and any% isn't technically wrong.

@Celestinno, can you please stop harassing other users, there's no reason to make a post if it has nothing constructive in it. Please try to control your animalistic urges.

Brazil

Dont get me wrong, I'm not "Harassing othe users", i just wanna stop receiving notifications for one line messages. I wanna see where the discussion is going, since this affects the board, but at the same time getting 2 notifications of the same guy saying things that could be said in one post is getting extremely annoying.

animalistic urges Come back when you know what that means, thank you very much

You can turn off notifications for the time being and bookmark the forum, easy.

https://puu.sh/wi9g8/19f30a5af3.png Acting like an animal, I.E., outbursts, lack of logic, lack of human cognitive ability. Lashing out at others over nothing defies logic and reason, and thus, can be considered an animalistic urge, as your id is manifesting without being controlled by your human ability.

This is a pointless derailment, and you're engaging an argument for the sake of arguing, which has no effect on the board discussion.

Points still waiting for response: Version categorization improvement All Stages vs Any% vs No Doppler Skip

Celestinno just comes off as an attack dog. Anything he's had to say has been negative. Anybody that he doesn't like is stupid or a douchebag, crazy or annoying, and he cusses us out as often as he gets the chance. F¤ck this, f¤ck that, don't f¤cking do this, you're f¤cking that. It's not super cool.

Edit: I definitely felt harassed by Celestinno earlier in the thread and I can see why Cyberdemon might feel that way now.

The only solution is to nuke the damn thing from orbit. Remove the game entirely, readd the game and just clone the boards from the other site. Why do you guys have to fight over this crap? It's speedrunning- aka something we should be doing to have FUN. Why must you fight like babies over this crap, god?

That said. You don't need to have a top-tier time to be a moderator, and in fact some people that have top-tier times would make TERRIBLE moderators. A mod needs to know the game well and be able to verify that runs are, in fact, legitimate and weren't cheated/hacked/TASed. I don't know this community. But I do know what a mod needs to be able to do and being able to get the WR is not one of those requirements.

Quit your bitching and fighting. Get off your high horses. Get your heads out of your asses. Work together on this. This shit is embarassing for speedrunners everywhere. Cut it out.

Make a mega man x category extension leaderboard cyberdemon, it fixes everything

United States

I think that the category extension board would look really dumb if it just had one run on it, and all categories should be linked to their respective games.

United States

Also, I see that Best Ending Max% is now a category. Even though that's a much smaller difference in route compared to No Doppler Skip and All Stages. I can only assume this is a new category because you all, as a clique, approve of it and think it's a "fun meme", and you don't approve of what I run because of me as a person?

I wish I didn't say I told you so, but... well, I told you so.

Best Ending Max% is an established category in the japanese speedrunning scene before hetfield ever touched the game, this isn't just a meme category that a mod happens to like, it's something that's been done before and is one of two categories tracked on the nico leaderboards. There wasn't enough interest on the MMRTA boards to add it as a main category, but misc. categories exist on that site now so there's less reason to not include it.

It's not quite the same situation as playing on a different platform for the sake of being on a different platform and deciding to not use one of the only unique aspects of the game in a speedrunning context. The only difference between No Doppler Skip and All Stages is when you get the saber. It's a very arbitrary distinction compared to getting different endings or getting largely different completion percentage.

Who you are is irrelevant, if it mattered that much, we'd just remove your posts and reject your runs. If you don't like what category your run is placed in, asking to explain the difference between any% and low% and pretending to not know what "route" means aren't helping convince us your category is interesting and worth having.

By the way, you can edit posts instead of posting several times in a row. It'd be nice if you could consolidate your points in one coherent post rather than sporadically firing out posts as you have individual thoughts, this thread doesn't need to have so many pages already.
