Should I (attempt to) speedrun this game?

I have wanted to try speedrunning for a while, but all of the games seem to take way to long for me. I'm thinking of trying to speedrun nitro no skip no item as it looks like the best for me. Should I start with this game?

If you enjoy the game, it wouldn't hurt to try. You say all of them seem to take way too long. You can start out small, and run single cups(check misc. in the categories tab) to get yourself used to using the timer as well as get a taste of what an mkw speedrun would look like.

Personally, I’ve loved this game ever since I was a child. I decided to do it as my first speedrun and have loved it ever since. The main reason I think this is a good welcoming speedrun is the difference in categories. There are certain cups or tracks to run, but you can also run all tracks. I think that the best beginner or casual mkWii fan looking for a speedrun should try 32 tracks, regular items and no skips. Personally I run 32 tracks, no items, no skips as it offers more intense and less luck related gameplay without the need of crazy strats and ultra shortcuts that can kill runs if not done well. One last thing, if you plan to put lots of time into the speedrunning grind daily, try not to use Wii wheel. It can really hurt your hands and cramp them up. Personally, it’s the only controller I have for mkWii, so I have gotten used to it, but I can only do like 2 hours of run/run practice a day. Anyways, I hoped this help, and good luck if you decide to run it! :)

I second what @SnowyFire said. Also if time is a real issue, there are always time trials which you can compete in over at https://www.mkwpp.com and https://www.mkleaderboards.com/mkw . Time Trials also does not require video proof since we have ghosts, so if recording is an issue that's also an alternative.

Do you need ctgp for the ghosts? And sorry if I confused you, as I meant my other games, not catigories, and time is not a problem as I am only a youngling. I am just not patient enough to spend a couple hours on an attempt only to make a mistake and lose my chance for a pb. Also, thank you for the advice!

You do not need CTGP for ghosts, since you can use homebrew apps to import and export save data (and you can import ghosts into your gamesave with the tools over at https://www.tt-rec.com). Additionally CTGP is not a proof requirement until you hit American/Worldwide tops.

If you want to do full game though, cups are always an option!
