Hey yall
I just verified a bunch of SB's runs and I saw that the timing different between wiiu vc and normal DS is completely bullshit
I've been fixing it manually before this, but honestly I don't think this is the right call, especially now that more runs seem to be done on wii u vc.

is it time to switch to igt?

As someone who's been looking into this game but been discouraged by the load differences I would say yes. The only issue is translating the boards since there are already a good amount of runs, however if help is needed with that I would be interested in helping.

the only problems I can see with switching are 1. will RTA still be a requirement? and 2. a lot of runs on the boards don't include IGT and many of them also don't have video or anything

What categories are we talking about here? I don’t think it makes any sense to go by RTA for this game anyway except for Missions where I guess bullshit loads would still affect it…

yeah the game literally gives you the time after every cup, i really don't see any reason not to switch to igt, just get an estimate for loading times on ds and wiiuvc and subtract those from the already submitted runs?

1. No, it wouldn't be.
2. Yep, and a lot of IGTs are calculated wrongly as well (sigh)
we'd have to estimate IGT based on the RTA at that point because I wouldn't want to push out the old runs.

This is the biggest problem for me, because 32 tracks doesn't have any IGT counter. You'd have to add them all up manually and converting old times will be suffering. Combine that with making sure the runs are legit without vid + taking no breaks and that's why RTA is/was the main timing. This change would apply to at least all the cups, though I would want 32T and all the cups to be on the same timing method.

Also there's a lot of submissions to go through and check, this would take a lot of time. It would also mean non accurate leaderboards, as guessing IGT from RTA would be an approximation.

Personally I could care less which one is used, other than the r4 vs. cart debacle. Playing on Wii U VC pretty much guarantees you will play much much worse since its vastly harder to PRB and generally play well. In terms of top ranking I don't think top time trial players have any trouble beating the existing Wii U VC times, even with the faster loads. Obviously I don't speak for everyone but I think in general playing on DS would be more overall beneficial since it's just way easier so you should go faster. I also don't see any way around this for 32 track rankings but I wouldn't mind if it is changed for cup rankings.

So TL;DR I don't care because DS being easier than Wii U should outweigh the benefit of faster loading times anyway
