There are several issues with this

- item pick ups
- this game actually has some strategy in getting on the elevator quickly, and has seen strategy advancement

- not really starting from new game
- the start of the game is slow beyond the Docks

I have considered the potential of having a category extension for MGS1, as there is way less to do in those Docks compared to TTS. And there is some precedent in the community for this kind of thing (TPP now skips the Hospital for any%, a healthy decision IMO).

So yeah, it could work, though I find the Docks to be a minor inconvenience, not a deal breaker. This run is already very fast compared to the original, with an excellent flow beyond the first 5 minutes. One's own motivation to do a speedrun is first and foremost, ruleset comes second. This is coming from someone who has sat in Docks the most among active runners (MGS1+TTS combined). It's a hassle, but I really feel like the rest of the intro is more annoying than the Docks. At least in the Docks you can chill and look at your phone.

Almost every run has some dry spots but that doesn't mean we should remove them. It's part of the run and it is honestly quite short. And surprisingly it's not as trivial as you might think. I've seen runners bungle the docks countless times due to a lack of focus. But more importantly, the point of a speed run is to beat a full game as fast as possible, not just some of the game. And in this case the save at the helipad would lose runners 10-12 seconds of IGT for no reason. I'd much rather meditate through 2+ minutes at the docks than give away time save for no reason.

I mean The docks are annoying to sit through after a reset or something, but its game play and I don't think game play should really be skipped, MGSV any% run does skip the prologue but whilst the docks is like 2:05 the MGSV Prologue is nothing but unskipable cutscenes and crawling around for a while. While you can die ect its just a waste of time on rails, there is almost no way to make it faster than the game intends for you to go and is what, Like 10 minutes or more? Also its a pretty nice place to introduce the run IMO

If you have a save
Then right away you’re no longer running single segment. As well as the fact the docks is 2 mins or so, and requires some level of competency. It’s annoying to sit around when you’re doing multiple attempts but it’s just how it is. Think of how the MGSV runners felt doing prologue every run, docks is nothing by comparison.
