Just did an Any% run and an All Bosses run. In both cases the analog movement was a huge relief. No more fluttering needed, just easy straight ahead lines. In Any% I saved less than a second in my golds. In All Bosses I saved around 4s in total. Granted I haven't played MGS1 in a long while on PC, so that's just my personal result after derusting.

Biggest improvement and easier movement was in towers going up (both) and the long stretches of Pal Key sequence walking. In general not needing to have my hand move back and forth just to go between dpad and arrow keys on my keyboard is a huge improvement of the experience as a runner. It's just more fun.

(sidenote: shoutouts also to the numpad patch - way easier to find the right number on a numpad instead of my top number row on the keyboard)

In total after having tried it myself I really hope that the community can say yes to this patch, say yes to an improved experience of running MGS on PC and especially being move open for people that aren't as able-bodied as most of us are.

After reading through this thread for days, the only real downside I see is the fact that we're changing the game. Correct, we do this, but just for the benefit of a better run experience. It's not making us better speedrunners over night, hard work will always be the biggest factor in improving. Can only recommend trying it out yourself if you're on the cusp with your vote. As we go into the holidays of course everyone is busy, so I don't expect any updated until into January, so have a good time, party safe and stay healthy.

After testing I would like to change my vote to yes please. I don't see any problem with people using analog on PC, even tho I vote yes only if we can also use the old 8-way movement. I don't think analog saves that much time tbh, maybe like 3 or 4 seconds at most (probably less) on a 1 hour run. Except for a few lines here and there and the Nikita section I don't think it's faster overall. I vote yes even tho I'm gonna still use the old movements because i'm used to it, but if people feels better with analog I'm ok with this as it doesn't really save time and as soon as it doesn't change anything in the gameplay. But if someone finds out it does change something in the gameplay, then I'll change my vote to no.

For clarification, using analog will NOT be required. All you have to do is uncheck the analog patch (if you normally use the stick for movement). If you regularly use Dpad, then you can have the patch on, and you'll still be able to feather normally.

Happy holidays! Hope everybody had a good Christmas.
Just bumping the thread for updates. A few yes votes still have yet to be added to the main vote count at some point. I get people are still busy, so I consolidated all the opinions since the last update:

@KingofTheBeezKingofTheBeez: Has a run on the board
@young_sn0wyoung_sn0w: Has a run on the board (anonymous, but I have permission to say it's his run)
Renflower AKA @HeadfenuHeadfenu (via @SetharooniSetharooni ) said yes as well but was not counted
@iLL_PazzoiLL_Pazzo: Has switched from abstain to yes.
In my opinion, @ApacheSmashApacheSmash vote should also be counted since he has ran the game (and at major speedrun events as well)

Bringing the total vote count to 19-8 yes. Hopefully this can get resolved soon as it's becoming clear that this is the way.

Happy New Year!

It's early January, and the holidays are over. What/who are we waiting on to get this resolved?

Any other thoughts? This really should be resolved by now in my opinion. People are ready to run and submit with the new patch, including myself. Don't see what the hold up is at this point.

If you want to add a requirement to state if someone used analog since a variable is not a viable option (https://www.speedrun.com/mgs1/thread/ju3du/2#hdi7h), put the following under PC Specific Rules (2nd rule):

"Analog patch integrated into the MGS1 Launcher version 1.3 or later by bmn is allowed for all PC runs. If you used analog, please put in your description if you used analog in your run. Failure to put this may result in rejection of your run."

However, I don't really think it's necessary, but that's up to mods I guess.

ive just now caught up on this forum, been dealing with my mental health away from speedrunning, been just hanging mostly. i think we can all understand a needed break despite an inopportune time in this topic's case. i havnt been reading for a couple of weeks, reached out to plywood and the plan is to have this resolved by the end of the week (forbidding some insane bombshell no one sees coming. if you have it speak now for the love of god). I agree with limes that it's probably the easiest way to require something in the description going forward. Previous runs would naturally unaffected by that requirement. that's my two cents on where things stand now. (lol 69th comment, nice)
