Thanks for the extra info! Every bit helps.

"Sometimes when you hold it and down after selecting it, you automatically starts mining, sometimes you mine everything except for the first square, other times you dont even mine something at all. "

This is actually a scenario I know. (Except for the last one, where nothing mines.) As for any map that requires the first square to be mined, this is a common strat.

But the "Sometimes first square is mined; sometimes it's not not." is something I can replicate on the cartridge. It's sort of 50/50 which one happens for me.

I've gotten all three, the last is quite rare though.

Hey MannedTooth,

Maybe going out on a limb, but is there any chance you still have that save state file? (.sg1 file extension, same folder as the ROM)

I just noticed from that save, if you select the no hint button as soon as it starts it wont work, but it will if you wait between 1 and 2 seconds, I can get it pretty consistently. :O

Canada

Oh Damn you did it, MannedTooth.

I was able to replicate it on my own save (On VBA, on your rom) just by waiting a couple seconds.

I'm moving on to test with Gambette and bgb; and the on my physical copy. Will keep you updated.

Oh! And with that one (Level 3A) I got it so that if you start as soon as the save starts you'll get it, whereas if you wait, you won't. It definitely is something related to the game's internal clock, like, it may be decreasing its time every 100 steps (for example), and the best way to get the 30:00 is to start at 1 step, where if you start at 99 steps, you'll get 29:59 when you start since it's already near the completion of its cycle.

So far I've only been able to replicate it right after loading a save state (On both VBA and Gambette so far); but I have been unable to get it to happen "naturally". IE: Start the level from the main menu, move to 'no', wait a couple seconds, start.

Have you been able to do it without loading or saving a state?

Québec

I'll try it out.

Canada

As your idea of the internal clock was my first idea as well, but looking back on all my old runs the clock start time seems -extremely- consistent across all levels.

It could have been related to when you pressed 'no' to the hint, but I would still expect more variety now while trying to replicate it.

Québec

Confirmed, I got it without saves.

Québec

I can get it 1/6 times. You have to wait for about 3-4 seconds. I try to time it with the music.

Canada

Replicated on VBA, Gambette, and my japanese cart (Via Super Gameboy 2)

Whelp. This sure changes all of the runs, aha. Time to redo row 1-3 I guess. XD

We have the option to move to RTA, but for such short times I think that sounds kind of awful. Both to record, and validate.

Opinions?

Canada

Although I suppose if we keep the current system it's not so much the time of solving being recorded; unless we want to factor that proper timing as a "part of the run".

Québec

I think we should keep the game's timer, but have a resource to teach runners how to do this. Just to be fair.

Lastly, thank you for your help in understanding this weird "glitch" I was beginning to think that you'd suspect me of cheating ! :P

Also, have fun with the runs ! ^^

Canada

Not at all! Thank you for all your help. I really am just curious by nature, I was worried you might think I was accusing you of cheating. :p

If you'd like I could do a basic writeup explaining the glitch. I'll try to make a short video of A1 from Menu-Glitch to show the approximate wait time needed for any new runners who happen to show up. :)

Same to you! ^^

Québec

I already got the video, I'm using my video editor to calculate the exact time I took to press it.

Washington, USA

We could use seconds from start of timer, avoiding the need to redo all of our runs with IGT manipulation.

I mean, I would be okay with this, but that's a pain to record, like I did this once with Super Mario World, and every time I would finish a level, I had to go into a video editing software and calculate my time, like there is no evident way to know if you beat yourself upon completion when you're battling for milliseconds.
