2-Character glitch in any%

I kinda feel like if we're going to allow the 2-Character glitch in any%, we might as well just get rid of the 2-Character% category as it's kind of pointless to have if that's the case.

Thoughts?

I have been operating under the impression that 2-character runs are for the 2-character% category for quite a long time...

I see it kind of like all squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are square. Anything you can do in 2 character can be done in any% but 2-character% has its own limitations to get creative with. My vote is to put all 2-character runs (besides like if someones doing rockstar or something with only 2 for some reason) in that category and if someone has a really hot strategy on it, encourage them to reproduce it in the respective normal mode and leave the third character idle.

Edit: I didn't consider the difference in lag on the two modes. Much to think about. Those new Niss runs are wild.

All known glitches are allowed in Any% so I don't see why it should be restricted.

In 2-character% the glitch is mandatory.

I understand the reasoning with merging the two categories but don't mind having a sepperate category. It really is a cool and interesting glitch! At this moment I believe it is a bit too early to tell how any% will develop.

Have anyone proven that there is reduced lag in 2-character%? I kind of just assume it is, but very often I find the game very laggy even with the glitch.

-edit- I read an old conversation I had with NeSs7or9 where we talked about a "no 2-character glitch". I believe that would be an alternative if we can prove that 2-character is the true any%.

I get both sides. From a moderation standpoint, Any% currently has the rule "All known glitches allowed", thus 2-character glitch is part of the breakable systems built into the game that can be exploited for a faster time. On a personal level, I believe Any% should typically be exactly that: break the game and beat it as fast as possible with it's own mechanics.

On the other side, this does make 2-character runs seem pointless in a way, since I believe all future Any% WR-pace runs have to utilize the 2-character glitch now to minimize lag. I could be wrong, but there'd have to be some big timesave specifically requiring 3 characters that would justify the slower performance.

I also am curious about what other active runners think, and what people think should be done in regards to rules and categories.

It looks like everyone on the leaderboard for 2-character% has a better time recorded on any%. On the one hand, that is at least some grounds to abolish that category but the rankings stack up differently on the two boards so some of us might feel like we have more to lose if its discontinued than others. I could go either way and would be interested in a vote maybe? I'll vote "present".
