So I want to kinda start speedrunning, and kinda this game. But the routing seems inconsistent, I don't really know where to get the game and I am new to speedrunning. So any help of any sort will be appreciated by this noob
The routing is very solid, but the tricks ate a bit complicated. You're more than welcome to join the discord server and ask any specific questions.
All in all, the routing is a little complex due to all the tricks and glitches. Just to get a feel for the game, i would start running glitchless or no major glitches. (which honestly should be a category) That would be my suggestion.
I started speedrunning a month ago and started with this game. My method was to watch a good run that showed the route (with glitches) and copy it level by level. If I couldn't get the glitch, I'd try again a few times, and if it was really too hard, I'd skip it. In a few days I had completed the game and proceeded to do a full run of it (ended up with a 56-something).
After that I'd just look at different strategies, routes or glitches/timesavers on others' runs or on my own. This worked well for me, but every person is different. There are many "easy" glitches in this game (which means that once you get it once or twice you get used to it easily) so it's a good game to begin speedrunning in my opinion. Also don't feel the pressure of "having to go fast" in the first few attempts. Just go for a full clear of the game without playing around to see what you end up with. ^^ And never reset when you're a beginner, just clear the game entirely a few times before trying to maximise your route. :)

I personally prefer controller, easier to control character that way. Also important to bind livesplit or your timer to the controller.
I find using a keyboard way easier since I'm used to playing games on pc and not on console. Just try both and see what works better for you. ^^
