Thread: Rules Question - Savestate for ILs?

The codes arent "specific". What I mean by this is there is a way to predict codes which take you to various places with varying records if you know the way they work. The only code which seems to be specifically programmed is the Tyson Code. I believe there is some more information on how the codes are generated on Red Toms website

Im pretty sure you can use the Switch, WiiUVC and NESmini etc. Save States can not be used for an IL, must be done from a fresh reset / power on.

we 'kinda' have this for a segmented run - Minor, Major, World and Tyson but its more about the minimal time from a collection of everyones times. I believe zallard1 has the fastest minor circuit which is sub 2 minutes, Brandon Dasilva has a really good Major circuit, and then Summoningsalt has a really good world circuit in his old 15:12 WR and also the Tyson fight.

afaik, the use of save states is not allowed, but you are allowed to use the ingame password to get to a particular fight as fast as possible.

If you watch the current strat used in Single Segment runs, you can get a 0:35.97... There is a faster strat though, if you use this strategy which is very close to the TAS strategy (they can still get the same time) you can get the time down to 0:35.61. This strategy is harder and is more random.

99.999999% sure this wont make any difference for speedrunning in single segment (due to it being in-game time), so I say go for it, but like Jack said, input lag will make things tougher, especially Tyson. Im not so sure about the RTA categories however, there might be a slight difference between playing on console and VC in real time.

For Single Segment, go to this page and follow the instructions on the right hand side - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Gl5qdpvA-XczrpuV8VOc5DhmZAAgLFkv6vd6D79YFFs/edit#gid=0

For RTA, I would recommend either WSplit or LiveSplit

As far as I know, the Mr Dream and Mike Tyson fights are exactly the same. So if you had the original NES hardware, Mike Tyson's Punch-Out and Punch-Out (Mr Dream) would be exactly the same. However if there is some fundamental difference in the way the NES Mini times each fight, then that might lead to an advantage or disadvantage.

Also the PAL and NTSC versions of the game play considerably differently from a speedrunning perspective so if the NES Mini reflects those PAL/NTSC differences, then I could see that being awkward. Since you are from Spain, I suspect a NES Mini would play like the PAL version of Punch-Out

I am just a runner of the game and by no means have any authority on which versions of the game would be accepted as a valid run. I do think there should be a PAL category for the game since there is quite a large difference in the fight times in most fights bewtween PAL and NTSC.
