This is really super cool! If the 100% route gets significantly improved we may see a sub-4 time like this tas gets:

I'm slightly confused as to how the glitch works though. I thought it worked like the first picture is -7's explanation post, where the direction you warp is one room perpendicular to the boundary you crossed. But in the picture of the path taken in the TAS, it looks like we sometimes warp two rooms at once, for example, from the bottom left of room three to the top left of room four in the overworld. Are you doing two warps in quick succession somehow? It looks like you're even warping from a room that doesn't exist, which is kinda crazy

The 100% wr is definitely the easiest one to beat, imo it was even before you smashed the other two. The clean sweep should be free for you!

I'm definitely too busy to grind cat planet right now, but I'm definitely hoping to come back and improve my times in a couple months. Maybe I'll be 3rd in every category by then!

yeah, it was actually like a double screenwrap notice that right when the glitch happens, I bounce off the wall and fall off-screen to the left, but instead of changing rooms I just die and you can see death sparks on the right side of the screen. I must have wrapped around to the right side and instantly died because I was in a wall. And then yea I wrap around again when I go up top. Just bizarre, no idea how these glitches work and no idea how best to cause them besides just flying at the corner. I'm not even sure what size of jump is best to use, they are all so inconsistent (in overworld or at the main glitch)

it was even in my any% pb for a couple years: https://vimeo.com/197475746.

So many weird things can happen when attempting the oob glitch. Sometimes the game will get stuck flickering between two rooms and it will be impossible to move and you just have to restart. Sometimes it can loop you to the left (maybe not right away, but if you try to drop back down to try again you end up a room to the left). Probably other things too that I'm forgetting

right, there was a while many years ago before I found speedrun.com that I was just racing rabidjellyfish's SDA runs, where the categories where just like, "any%" and "no deaths all cats" and I didn't know about the glitch that lets you skip everything but I stumbled upon that factory glitch so used that. The speedrun.com categories are much better though

yeah if you line up right you can fall down into the last jungle room. I've done it before, I'll see if I can dig up a clip

ok looking more closely at it, what I believe happened was that you DID glitch at the corner (the angle you made matches the glitches I've seen), but since it was a small jump you didn't get all the way off the screen until you jumped again. I think the glitch makes the top wrap around to the bottom, so you just hadn't gone high enough to wrap around yet.

congrats on the wr! It was beatable without going under the firebar, but super impressive that you got it in a run 9 times! I've only ever done it in practice and never with the fast start to the room as well.

I have never seen the overworld glitch happen in the middle like that, kinda crazy. The room where you had it happen is actually the perfect one too - it's possible to beat the any% (with glitches) wr by like 20s by getting the overworld glitch in that room

You should upload your PB(s)! And maybe go take 3rd place on any% real quick 🙂. I'm hoping start trying some any% no oob again, but I think I have a long way to go to improve...

I believe the download filed under resources here still works, and is the version of the game built for speedrunning anyway

Hmm, interesting. I'm not sure I've seen exactly what you're talking about, but we naturally do something similar in a few spots already right? For example in the 100% run, first room in the jungle, when we go to get the cat that says "jungles can be dangerous!", I try to start pressing right at the same time as hitting the wall. Are you suggesting that maybe it's better to start pressing right before hitting the wall? That is counter-intuitive, because it should make us hit the wall slightly later and at a slightly slower speed, and so the initial bounce back speed should be slower. But the reward is that we are accelerating right again immediately, rather than maybe having a slight delay. So if it is somehow better to press right before hitting the wall (rather than at the same time as hitting the wall), that would make a difference in a bunch of spots right?

just watched the end of the twitch vod, great run! first lava section, factory, and underworld all seemed very fast and improved from my run, with the only significant mistake happening in the second lava section. seems like audio just cut off partway through your stream, unlucky but I don’t think it’s a big deal. I think the biggest places you saved time on my run are the crazy firebar room (you go straight up after skipping the cycle instead of bouncing around), the third machine room (oops I waited too long), and that room near the end with three crows where you exit more smoothly than I do (will need to implement that). I’ll start trying to improve soon!

woah awesome time!! I don’t think audio should be strictly required personally. more incentive to beat it though 🙂 have you put the video anywhere yet?

wow, cool! unfortunately the framerate is so low at least for me that it's not really playable. I did one playthrough, and then did one playthrough of normal cat planet at it felt so fast and smooth...

that's like what, 1.4s ahead of WR? nice!! Not sure where you managed to find all that timesave but good luck finishing out a run! I probably won't find time to play this until at least december or you beat my time, whichever is first 🙂

can't think of any other tricks that haven't been done in a run, no. there are just like, lots of corners we could try to take slightly more aggressively, idk. Like the factory has lots of places to shave frames from what we usually do I'd say.

oof, sorry to hear that. I have also never pulled off both at once, even in practice. It is definitely possible to get WR with just one of them though! hope you have more luck with that

yea it’s ridiculous - it’s all about the angle of approach so I feel like it’s possible to have like a 10% success rate or something with a really good setup. One time I even got it “in a run” (except I only went for it because I had already accidentally died once...), but I butchered the next room. 2 seconds is a lot of time! I don’t see why doing the cycle skip should make it any harder - despite the obvious that the cycle skip is hard. We already bounce off the pole after the cycle skip, so it should be reasonable to attempt going under too.

But sure, to maximize chances at getting it maybe don’t do the cycle skip. One second is still hopefully enough to absorb minor mistakes, but yeah it does mean you still can’t afford to play it really safe after or to mess up worse than a small bonk

Hmmm not sure - you might want to check me on the second and third crow rooms... it's a little more tricky to measure stuff because we don't have the same momentum entering/leaving the third crow room
