3DS VC differences with GBC Emu?

Hello guys, I do speedruns of Pokemon games on the 3DS but I wanted a change of pace, so I recently got LADX for the 3DS VC and seeing runs of Any% no WW/OOB piqued my interest for speedrunning the game. So I wanted to ask if there are any differences between the JP VC version (my console is JP and the VC ROM is Japanese too) and the JP ROM used in emulator runs that are the most popular option for speedrunning this game.

The biggest issue, if I remember correctly, is that VC editions of LADX are version 1.2 of the game. That means that the major exploits currently used in runs (Super-Jumping and Bomb Triggers, primarily) will not work, since they are 1.0 only. Unfortunately, those two tricks alone save a good 10+ minutes to the run.

The only category that has very few changes from version 1.0 to other versions is Legacy (which can not be run in Japenese anyways.) :(

Hope this helps

Hi Astralslide o/

Zorlax has covered the issue with the 3DS VC versions :( There's nothing stopping you from running the game on there but you'd not be able to do the major exploits. But you are always able to to run the older route. LeonP made a tutorial for this a while back now. Obviously you wouldn't be able to get a WR time from this route but it's a start. Link to his tutorial

The other option of course is to run on Emulator using a JP 1.0 ROM which most of us here do. There's a download pack with has the Emulators which are allowed for this game and ROMs which also have save states to learn from too. They can be found here - http://www.speedrun.com/ladx/resources

Hopefully we'll see a run soon :)

Any questions just ask I'm sure somebody will help :)

Aw that sucks. Might still do runs regardless, thanks for the video, I'll look at it! Running Pokemon is a brutal process so I just wanted some pressure relief, even if it's just doing fun runs.

Thanks for the answer guys.

Yeah I believe Pokemon runs are RNG heavy from what i've seen at least the earlier Pokemon games.

LADX is a fun run to be fair there isn't too many RNG elements which will annoy you too much which is nice.

I've just realised that you're after a Save and Quit route. The video I linked you too is a No S+Q route. You'll still learn the game from that tutorial but you might be best off watching a S+Q run from 1 Year ago to see which route they're taking. Anything Newer than "1Year Ago" on the Leaderboards may have the new glitches in them. So you can still get a pretty good S+Q time even with the old route :)
