So I wasn´t sure if dashing was faster than running(as it requires more preparation) I decided to test it, turns out dashing is actually faster.

Cutter also had a faster dash cooldown than Sword and Fire right? Sword has a pretty long one, and I think fire is a shorter dash overall.
This run (Current Grasslands Stage WR, it seems) uses burning to cover vertical distance, and it seems actually so much faster than anything, even if slower on ground level. Also helps the Whispy quickkill in this stage
Right, so, the fire dash on air seems so much faster yeah. Just wanted to get this game moving a little.
In air, fire seems to be faster whereas cutter is faster on the ground (due to a longer distance + similar cooldown time to fire)
Fire is harder to pull off though. You have to start running, jump and then dash. The cutter feels faster to execute, but you don´t fly.
Fire seems to slightly farther in terms of distance although that may be because of the jump

Just tested, fire and cutter have the same distance. Not sure which is faster but both seem perfectly viable.
Cutter seems more reliable to me but if the verticality of fire is better, fire it is. It seems to be very useful in Grasslands rn.
Did more timings, long document paste: Speeds from start of Dedede Hall to the black door at the end (in seconds.milliseconds): Running (no ability) - 8.857 Running (no ability), jumping - 8.362 Sliding (no ability) - 9.305 Cutter Dash - 6.643 Water sprinting - 6.955 Fire/Burning Dash, on surface level - 6.970 Fire/Burning Dash, Aiming dash upwards - 5.246
So yeah, running and as many useful jumps (not just hopping, since that won't actually work in stages) is the way to go without any ability.
I might have not done my best in execution on ground burning, but I didn't make any misfires of the wrong attack- meaning, it seems ascending dashes with fire seem fastest, but very hard to pull off from my experience, but cutter seems to be very consistent- it seems the storage for it's Sprint is starting during the attack, so you can basically start sprinting (therefore attacking again) almost immediately after the last dash.
On the other hand, burning is better for scaling up areas, but has to read 2 new direction inputs to properly start a sprinting state. Burning is also more affected by hitstun, when cutter dashes don't seem to have any at all- so it seems levels will mostly have to juggle, depending on their verticality™ between cutter and burning.
I'd also note that the Stone + Water friend combo is pretty much the fastest thing in the game, but in 1 player, relies on playing with Stone (not fast by itself, go figure) and the CPU to help you quickly. But in 2 player runs, this will probably have a fairly big role in the run.
Speaking of hitstun, I compared the friend wheel 2nd segment when played normally to a run where I avoided enemies, and by that hitstun: Without minimal hitstun: 26.102 Actively avoiding hitstun: 25.906 It's 0.2 seconds that aren't hard to save, so saved they will be.

So now that the full has come out, are there of abilities that may be faster than fire or cutter. When I was playing, wing’s dash in the air seems fast and it seems like you fly faster with wing than other abilities
Is normal sword dashing faster or is sword dashing with a certain mix faster, like fire and sword or wind and sword for example
a couple new replays from Hall Dedede and and the included essay and times of some other abilities coming later today. haven't come close to beating the game but I'll do what I can to help the runs for now ?
