Guide to Advanced Tech

This guide will go over the more advanced tech you most likely wouldn't have learned normally. I'll try to make this as informative, yet to the point as I can.

General things of note:

**- Boost Levels**

It is important to note the various levels of boosts you can have. Lv1 = Red. Lv2 = Purple. Lv3 = Blue. Lv4 = Orange. Lv5 = Blue (longer). Lv6 = Orange (with rings).

**- Road Incline/Decline**

This should come as no surprise, but it's good to keep in mind that going up an incline will slow your vehicle down, while going down declines will speed it up. The same applies to planes. Gaining altitude will slow you, while losing altitude speeds you up. This can be useful to remember in certain situations.

**- Boost Speed Cap**

This game has a sort of speed cap imposed on boosts. As an example, if you were to use a level 3 boost, then pass over a boost pad a few moments later, you would actually be slowed down, because the speed from the higher level boost is still in effect for some time, thus, the lower level boost will cut your speed. Additionally, it's generally a bad idea to use a bunch of low level boosts in quick succession, rather than charging level 3 boosts and using those instead. Cars will lose speed instantly when going from a high to low level boost, and planes will lose speed gradually over a short period of time.

**- Water**

Funnily enough, the Speed Cap doesn't apply to boats. It's a good idea to use a high level boost in the water, then follow up with a short level 1 boost because it adds onto your current boost and gives you a bit of an extra push. It also doesn't hurt to use many level 1 boosts in water either, though, that brings up an issue worth noting. Drifting in water slows you down, for whatever reason, if you are airborne from a wave, or jump. It's a good idea to drift in water on areas without many waves, as it's relatively flat, and otherwise try to drift only for turns and vehicle adjustment.

#Advanced Tech Basics This section will go over the various tricks you can learn to improve your skill, some more basic than others.

**- Drift Holding**

This is a trick you may have figured out on your own. Normally, a person might drift while holding the analog stick against the direction they are drifting, however, it is possible to extend the length of a drift by tapping the analog stick against the drift instead.

**- Boost Stacking**

Again, something you probably noticed on your own. You are able to combine any boosts together in this game, to create higher level boosts. If, for example, you have a charged level 3 boost, you can hold it until you approach a boost pad, and release it as you pass over it to get a higher level boost. It's also good to know that if two boost pads are close enough together, you can pass over both of them to combine boosts that way too.

#Stunt Tech This section will go over the various types of stunt tech in the game.

**- Lv4 Stunt Boost**

Normally, a person might just stunt using the same direction multiple times (up, up, up or down, down, down for example), but that will only give you a level 3 boost in total. By doing three unique stunts however (up, down, left or left, down, right and so on), you can get a level 4 boost.

**- Drift Rolling**

When going off of a jump, you can drift, and roll towards the road ahead to push yourself forward slightly. This can be useful to gain forward momentum, especially on big jumps. Remember, doing this will keep charging your current drift boost charge as well, so it can be very useful on jumps that have enough height to roll while still charging your current boost, then get in a Lv4 Stunt Boost before landing, and that can be released to get a higher level boost, or stored for later.

**- Angle Rolling**

Mostly useful during water sections, or going through transform rings, you can turn your vehicle slightly to the side and roll forward at an angle.

**- Faux Stunt Fail**

You are probably aware that if you try to stunt too fast, the stunt will fail. Well, this can be a good thing in some cases once you take Boost Stacking into account. In some sections where you may only need to stunt once, you can avoid triggering the level 1 boost you get from that, so that you can maintain your speed from a previous higher level boost. All you need to do is quickly tap the stick twice. Your character will stunt, then 'fail' it, and land normally without boosting. It's also worth noting, you can do this to force a landing in the middle of a stunt. For example, if you happen to be stunting on a small hop, or are simply not sure if you can fully complete a stunt, you can quickly double tap a stunt to force your character to land safely, although without any of the boosts you had stored. Do note though, that this can't be abused to force stunt all small hops a track may have to save time, because it'll slow you, unless you're under the influence of a boost.

**- Risk Boosts**

During flight sections, you can fly towards an obstacle, and stunt away from it at the last second to gain a Risk Boost. Depending on the track, you can chain this together many times. It is also possible to stunt away from two obstacles in a row for a Danger Boost, and three obstacles in a row for a Reckless Boost, however, anything above a Risk Boost is usually much harder to pull off, and generally not worth going for.

**- Risk Boost Storage**

It's possible to store a Risk Boost before going into a Transform Ring, by avoiding an obstacle as normal, then constantly stunting towards the ring without letting it go off. The next time you go into a Transform Ring for a flight section, the stored Risk Boost will still be there, and you can let it go off. This can be useful for Time Attack, so that you can start a fresh lap with a Risk Boost.

#Risky Tech This section will cover the difficult tech that may not be worth going for.

**- Transform Launch**

Definitely the most complex tech here. During a flight section, if you approach a Transform Ring at a very specific angle while drifting, then hold the analog stick in the opposite direction that you're drifting right as you touch the Transform Ring, you will launch in that held direction. This trick is very difficult to control, and if you don't do it correctly, will typically shoot you off into the great unknown. May or may not be worth investing time to learn depending on who you are.

**- Double Boost from a Single Boost Pad**

While not as complex as the Transform Launch, I would say this trick is far less worth going for. If you drift towards a Boost Pad and hit it with the nose of your car, then quickly drift in the opposite direction to hit that same Pad with the tail of your car, you can get a second boost added from it. The timing of this is very tight, and you need to be a specific distance from the Pad, because essentially, you're leaving the Pad and re-hitting it. On top of that, the trick is even harder to pull off with smaller cars like Ralph. Furthermore, while you can most likely do this with any Boost Pad, the easiest ones to get it would be on straight paths, which limits where you can even attempt it at all.
