SNES9x 1.54 is fine. Any official release of the SNES game (US/JP/PAL 1.0-1.2) is allowed. Splitting software doesn't necessarily matter, but if the split timer and the VOD don't match, you may be asked to retime. There are plenty of people who submit poorly recorded runs.

No one will ask for a local recording unless your time is especially suspicious (first run is a 124, for instance.) Your OBS recording is fine. All of my submissions, for instance, are just twitch vods with discord voice chat over them. Game audio is definitely preferred to be audible, but you can have voice over top.

why is milliseconds not used when categories like any% have dozens of people tied for the same time because there is no miliseconds

Probably because Any% isn't taken as seriously as other categories and not many people really care about being tied with dozens of others. I'd imagine it would matter more if there were like 10 people tied for 1st or something.

Are shorter pauses allowed during a speedrun? Let's say I have to go to the bathroom or someone is ringing the door bell. Can I pause the emulator and timer and resume later, if it's done in such a manner that eventual timing mismatches only is a strictly disadvantage to me?

Would like to have a moderator confirmation as I don't want to submit a run and get it removed because of rules.

cannot pause timer. You can pause but timer must run.

8BitisGr8: Regarding Any% timing, the game runs in frames. Things can only happen in increments of 1/60th of a second, so any precise timing would be in 60ths of a second, and not ms. There's no super accurate way to re-time a VOD down to the frame in this game (if you framecount your local recordng and your twitch vod, you can get different frame counts) so, seconds is the best we get. A lot of runners time their run down to the 10th or 100th of a second, but that's for their own purposes.

I have a question about deaths. Does an accidental death kill a run or is it just ones that are done on purpose?

Deaths are allowed, EXCEPT for intentional overworld deaths intended to warp you somewhere. You can intentionally die in dungeons if you wish.

Thank you sir i doubt i could finish a run without dying at this point so that is a big relief.

Hi everyone,

Still improving my 100% run before submit something that worth something. I've watched all tutos from Andy and Fruitbats (Several times) and many many other 100% runs.

I helped myself for the biggest part of tricks you have to perform to speedrun.

But for some I have to ask. I'm glad that this forum tread exists.

My first interrogation is about the "chest opening" (The way that Link face already downwards when opening the chest). Andy explains the tricks in his tutorial. But I don't have the "key" to get it all the time !

Does someone can explain how the trick work ? Thanks already

@timxtim Are you talking about chest turns? This is achieved by pressing down, left or right on the same frame that you open the chest. It loses time unless you can do it without any delay, and it's hard to do consistently. It's basically 100% swag. :)

Yes I am.

I've got the trick' name now. Thanks to you.

Funny I thought it was a "save time technics". Even if it's for the Swag only, it's cool.

Thanks Pinkus

It save one frame if you do it perfectly. Most people don't do it frame perfect, so they lose time.

If I did a speedrun on the Snes9X v1.54.1 emulator with the Japanese version of the game, am I required to show ALL 7+ minutes of the ending credits in-order for my run to be valid? This is for Any& Major Glitches category.

Thank you~

Hi Phantom, Here is the global rules for this category you want. If you read the point 4), You.ve got your answer !

  1. Only official Japanese, American and European versions are allowed.

  2. Turbo is banned.

  3. Pressing Up+Down or Left+Right simultaneously is banned.

  4. The full credits must be shown for categories which beat the game.

  5. All major glitches are banned.

By the way you should use BSNES... Far better to me

Hello, world.

I'm using the SNS-ZF-CAN Canadian French cart, software equivalent to US version I believe, i.e. no JP1.0 exclusive glitches. I had a quick look at the leaderboards and there are US version times listed here and there so I can kind of get a frame of reference for how well i'm doing, the only thing being that I'm pretty sure French is even less compact than English in textboxes so i kind of want to correct for that, at least for myself if not in the times I would eventually submit. I'm thinking I want to basically follow along with a video of a run on my SNES and compare lines between versions and then multiply the difference by the minimum time per line with optimal mashing (which I can't perform myself yet, obviously). Would that make sense at all? Can anyone help me figure out the details of how to do it?

The times you submit would not be adjusted for text. If you run on the French version, you have to accept any time loss you might get. The runners who would know about the french version aren't around right now, and I don't know if any text comparison has been done. I know US is 59 seconds slower than JP for text.

If that comparison hasn't been done I could certainly at least try to do it, if only for documentation. Having looked at the leaderboards again the times displayed are spread out enough that I think I still have a shot (eventually; I'm still learning the run!) even with a hypothetical extra minute's worth of text over the English version.

The WR holder has run that version, his best time is a 1:26:30. So a 1:23:19 runner has a 1:26:30 and he said there's probably a minute of mistakes in that run, so expect 2:00~~ of time loss between JP1.0 and NTSC-FR
