Hi yall, I've never run a game before and want to give JSRF a shot. I was thinking I'd start with Any% and maybe see what the others are like after that. I have literally nothing set up yet to enable me to record or stream, so nothing's forthcoming.
I speak some Japanese so I was thinking I'd try the Japanese version just to try to keep up with it through osmosis. Need to get a jailbroken xbox and NTSC-J copy first though.
Anyway, that's my thing. Nice to be here! If you have any advice feel free!
Hey man, and welcome to the JSRF speedrunning community! If you need somebody to teach you all that you need to know give me and zulbull a shout, but seeing as you are more to my time zones I'll be your best guide, it would also be nice to have a reason to end this current haitus. It's a pleasure to have more active members even if you're unable to record, I livestream with a webcam so don't feel bad. Is there a reason why you are getting a softmodded xbox first? Also, another point I should add, you may find some skips unable to complete if you run on the japanese version, as dialogue will run too fast in some parts of the game to be able to execute some glitches and skips.
Thanks a lot, I'm pumped!
Yea, I was reading the guides and figured there would be some skips I couldn't do, but that's OK. I thought I needed a modded xbox to actually be able to play the NTSCJ disc, but is that not true? You all are saying that having a modded one lets you install and save on loading times, too.
Yeah load times are a nice advantage but obviously more important is skill. If you don't already have an xbox than it's worth looking for a modded one (especially a 1.6 xbox like the crystal edition), but if you already have one just start out learning all of the strats and routes of this game before spending a lot of money towards it.
Yea, that's a good point. Since I don't have one already, do you know a good place to get a modded xbox? I patrolled craigslist and found a possible one, but do yall have a favorite place to get them?
Welcome to the community! JSRF is a great game and it's always good to see new runners.
I bought my Xbox non modded from a game shop and just ordered the stuff to mod it online. So if you can't find one already modded you might want to do that.
I used Amazon to pick up the flash drive and the adapter. You should be able to find Splinter Cell in a game shop nearby where you're at.
