Diveboosting

Hey, I am new here and I made a glitchless run just for fun, but I have a question. Is diveboosting allowed on glitchless categories?

Switzerland

This was a really troublesome subject on the past few weeks. For now is it not. But maybe it is bound to change. This has always be on the verge of acceptable but it would be really strict if it was meant to be allowed. Something like "only diveboosting for losing altitude but never for gaining it". But even that could be troublesome because then you could just diveboost and release a plane angle momentum to gain a big speed boost on a great distance. Then would it still be considered as a glitchless ? maybe yes maybe no, it all depends what we are calling a glitch or what mechanics breaks the game too much to be allowed for a glitchless run. You can still post your time in Glitched even if it's not comparable with other full out of bounds + boosts. It could sets a good milestone to improve for you (i've done that when i began).

I think what is important in the glitchless category is the barrier for entry. Some players can have trouble with boundary breaking, various boosts, and skips. Diving is a mechanic that a player on their very first journey can learn and utilise without breaking the game. Making a distinction between diving for gaining speed in flight and faster descent, and diveboosting for the purposes of skipping sections (See: https://www.speedrun.com/Journey/run/2yw8xony the part in BB) and boundary breaks doesn't seem like it would be too difficult and would allow a few more different paths and angles for the glitchless category. For now diving as a whole is considered a glitch even though it is an intended mechanic, and seems counter-intuitive for a community concerned with speed. In my opinion something should be considered a glitch if it isn't used or likely to be uncovered in "regular" game play. With the release of Journey on Epic Games Store and the upcoming Steam release I believe it would be beneficial to the community overall for the rules to be reconsidered.

I 100% agree with you Inspector_Fox! Now, allowing dive boosting in some cases means we have to come with clear rules that explain when it is allow and when it's not. That's pretty much what stopped us from not counting dive boosting as a glitch until now. But as Over mentioned, it is very likely to change in the near future.

Thanks to everyone who answered, it helped me a lot. And about what you said Over, I have been thinking about posting the run in the Glitched category, I probably will but not for now.
