Hello.

Am interested in this run, is there any document or anything detailing all the strats, glitches and so on?

British Columbia, Canada

Hey!, I'm interested in it too but there doesn't seem to be any glitches or anything. I'm playing through it to see if I can find any skips or anything but the programmer seem to have done their due diligence.

United States

Looks like http://www.twitch.tv/ninetigerr plans on running this at SGDQ. If it gets in it'll be a useful reference. Here's his recent speedrun that he hasn't posted here:

Hello All,

I've booked a few hundred hours on the game casually, searching for exploits and glitches. And at least 200 hours dedicated exclusively to speedrunning. I've found a few things to note.

Cut-scenes. ¤ They come in 2 different varieties, where the models move, and pre scripted. There is 1 pre scripted cutscene that cannot be skipped. (The water dragon's explanation near the end of the game). ¤ pre scripted cutscense cannot be skipped the 1st time you run through the game. If you delete your save files that have gotten past the particular cutscene, you will need to watch it again. ( I believe this is a per character basis)

Forest Fox skip: There is a way to skip a bunch of dialog when talking to the forest fox by saving and reloading. You can find info on it in the SpeedDemosArchive forums, I have found that it is significantly slower for me than mashing through the text.

Forest Fox / The Mother: Killing the fox is always faster, as it cuts out a whole zone, and a bunch of travel. The downside is the enemies are more difficult (in my opinion)

Quick Door - This is more of an interesting system mechanic. (On Controller) When running to a zone change door, your character will stop at the door automatically if you hold the stick forward, but you will not be able to press (A) until they're fully stopped. If you however release the directional stick, they still take ~1-2 more steps, but more importantly you can press (A) to zone out about 1/4 to 3/4 seconds sooner. Not a huge time save, but it is something to note.

Starting Weapon - The sword you can get at the beginning can hit more than 1 enemy in any given swing.

Here's a fun one if you go too fast. - After being introduced to Dawn Star - Once Gao the Lesser exits the conversation, his character model disappears after reaching a certain point. You cannot exit the zone until after his character model disappears.

You can do Harmonic Combo's to kill weak/weakend enemies quickly. (I personally find it easier to keep attacking than take the time to setup a combo) ((This is most useful for enemy management when you can be surrounded quickly like the steps leading up to the final boss))

You can look at current runs to get an idea of the other setups that people use when it comes to fighting styles. At this point in time, there is no "faster" style, rather the one you're most comfortable with is the best one to use.

Plan out when and what you level up. Leveling up every time you ding may not be the most effective use of your time.

Other than that, the game is in my opinion 95% about being able to end fights quickly, and 5% not messing up on a menu.

Hey there, I'm the runner formerly known as 'ninetigerr' on Speed Demos Archive and on Twitch. I hardly get to play video games anymore, heh....

The "Forest Fox skip" referred to above, I think I might have been the original author of that.

There definitely are opportunities for glitches and the like, because I definitely found some. There are several opportunities for the "sneak skip" tactic that I discovered.

I should probably submit my sub-2:30 (Xbox) on here, shouldn't I?

And I even started a blog for when I tear this game apart, hehe https://jadeempirehacking.tumblr.com/

@dressupgeekout unfortunately your run will be declined, the same as every other run that has been done in years. This is because the mods of this have no idea how to run the leaderboard and retroactively changed the rules to force external timers therefore making all the runs invalid.

Hey boys. I've been trying this game out during the weekend and it's not too bad. I've been trying to reuse glitches known in kotor in this game but most don't work, either patched or because they changed the system (menu glitch can weidly happen but nothing comes of it and that means FLU is impossible to do). I also killed the quicksave function at some point by trying out menu glitch, had to reinstall the game, fun things and all. One of the things i've noticed is that invisible walls seem to spawn around any fight even if it's not triggered. For example the fight right before you go to the beach in two rivers, i can save buffer to get to the entrance to the beach without triggering the fight but the invisible wall is already here. There may be other ways of doing that though, not sure. Another "glitch" I found and that probably only works with a keyboard is wiggling rolls. Basically it's only faster in stairs or slopes, but if you start a roll outside of combat and press D multiple times while in the air, your character will start sliding and gaining speed. While it's as fast as the focus run on a plane terrain, I'm pretty sure it's faster on slopes and stairs. It's also really easy to execute. I wonder what you're calling "sneak skip" @dressupgeekout, is it a way of skipping fights? Finally i guess RTA PC runs would be overall faster by the simple fact that loading screens are less than 2 seconds long in most cases. I think that's pretty much it. I tried to reproduce the transformation glitch i got once or twice with the jade golem to finish a combat with it, see if you keep it and if it modifies your hitbox or not. No luck this far . And door clipping doesn't work, not a big problem but heh, could have allowed to break dirge maybe. Anyways this game could have some potential but i'm not sure if I'll search much further. Also hi Ben, see you at ESA.

@Strife re: "sneak skip": yeah, I do it a few times in the YouTube video I posted above. Check out how I skip meeting a fight AND meeting the Water Dragon at 22:00. I also skip fighting some ghosts 28 minutes in. The trick is to barely touch the edge of a fight-area such that enemies are spawned, but we don't go into "battle mode." Hence, you can skip the fight and any cutscenes "attached" to it.

Only tested on Xbox, no idea if it works with the Special Edition on PC.

Perhaps I should also take this time to mention that I actually HAVE been able to go out of bounds on Xbox. I swear to God. I think I'll start another thread regarding that. SOMEWHERE I have actual video footage of it, just not sure where :(

Overall, I do believe this game is breakable. I think we just need to consolidate everything that we know

Ahh interesting, I was so focused on generic bioware glitches that i didn't check what you did sorry. I'll try it tomorrow. Also if you have some spots where you could go OoB, just tell me where and i can try on the pc version plus I can try to understand how to do it more.

Germany

@dressupgeekout Hey, you're Christian Koch on YT! I used your speedrun as reference for my practicing efforts. Learned the ghost fight skip from your vid as well. Can't get the Necropolis fight skip consistently yet. My last half-assed run was on Xbox One, about 3h, mainly trying out different things, but I've gotten 2.5h on Xbox 360 before, about a year ago maybe.

Well the good news is the ghost skip works on PC too. So that means the "sneak skip" technique works, maybe not as much as xbox, but it does work. Good news!

@ThirstyWraith I go by Charlotte these days, but yeah, that's me. Hiya :]

Rhône-Alpes, France

Alright so after a few tries everywhere, I think we can determine a few things: the fights that can be skipped with the sneak skip are fights with ennemies not yet on the board. So for example that excludes all the starting fights and most of the fights against humans in general. Not sure if there are any other rules yet, I'll get back to you on that.

Germany

So the trick probably is to leave the fighting zone while the enemies still have their spawn animation going.

Rhône-Alpes, France

Yeah most probably.

England

i think the "sneek skip" can be done a bit faster. i've managed to achieve the same thing by alternating topLeft/bottomRight just before the animation trigger then running back when it triggers, seems to be faster then running along the wall

@talldie Yup, yeah, the current strats for achieving those skips are way more refined than when I first discovered how to do them at all in the first place.

Basically all of the new, recent runs on the leaderboard today demonstrate the skips more elegantly executed than in my old video.
