Booming thread. I'm Get Low, and I'm the moderator of this game now, because the original mod hadn't logged on in like, three years.
I'm not meming, I legitimately want this.
I'm tryna speedrun this game because it's cool as hell but I ain't tryin' to actually play this mess, it's way too hard. I request a legalization of the perfect play cheat.
I purchased an English reproduction copy of this game for the Dreamcast from Nights Into Dream, and I was wondering if I could use it to speedrun on this board, or if I'm only allowed to use the official Japanese game.
Thanks everyone, for the timely responses. What a solid community. I feel so welcomed here.
"Just request the game."
Of course, I always will.
"the "at this time" literally means nothing."
'At this time' is different from 'We will never'
"my point is that you have nothing to complain about"
Yes I do. Even though they are accepting some visual novels, they are not accepting all of them. I want them to accept all of them. Also, please stop telling me to speedrun the other visual novels that are accepted on the site. Which visual novels are currently accepted on site and which ones are not is not the basis for my decision to run one.
I don't understand what YOUR point is. I don't understand why you keep bringing up my personal run when that has next to nothing to do with why I created this thread.
Yes Merl I am aware of all of this. (How tf do you quote people's posts on this forum?)
Mods if you're out there just start adding visual novels. Ya'll ain't running on a limited capacity of the total number of games allowed on the site, and adding visual novels isn't gonna hurt anything.
"Well Low if you really feel that way then you wouldn't have responded to us as much as you have been."
I don't know what you mean. I'm responding to everyone because I started the thread, and we're discussing something I care about. If you're referring to my VN runs, I think that shit is cute, but no one else in this thread does, so I'm not going to bother sharing them just to have them get shit on.
Also, reading (or in speedrunning's sake, skipping) text, and making choices that determine the final outcome of the game, is, objectively gameplay. These claims that there is no gameplay in visual novels are just stemming people's personal ideas of what video-gameplay should be considered.
I have a couple recorded runs, but they are not "good" runs by anyone in this thread's standards, so I'm not going to bother sharing.
I like how all of you are conveniantly ignoring the core gameplay element of visual novels, which is choice-making, and are instead reducing them to "just skipping text". Visual novels speedruns can also contain exploits such as glitches and cutscene skips like other speedruns.
Idk who you think you are telling me to stop debating this, but I'm going to keep advocating for VN speedruns until either the site starts including them, or until I stop caring about speedrunning.
It literally, objectively, is speedrunning, though.
Or selecting responses when they appear, yeah. That's one of many attributes that I think could personally qualify for a good speedgame, hence why I'm here advocating for VN speedruns.
Everything you just said is why I think they are good speedgames, in addition to the fact that VNs are visually pleasing and usually have good music. Those things fit my personal definition of a good speedgame.
"Good speedgame" is subjective. I'm of the opinion that standard VNs that are entirely choice-based and have no other gameplay elements constitute as "good speedgames", but the site owners do not, so no explanation is going to change that.
I plan to still try and submit the game every time I run a VN, but they are currently still being stubborn about it. I'd imagine that it would take someone with a more open perspective on the genre becoming in charge in order for these to ever get accepted.
Alternately, a separate website specifically for VN speedruns could be made.
