Right before the best mission in the game, is easily the worst.

There is nothing you can do to increase the speed of the consort, you don't need to actually follow him, do anything. Even if you manually drag the consort to the end objective, he'll slowly crawl back to the place he was pulled from and begun his slow path around the world.
